Interview with a Product Manager and How UX Research Collaborates with them - Jason Zhang

Today I sit down with Jason Zhang, Head of Product and Lead Product Manager at StubHub, formerly Chrysler, to have a conversation about what product managers do, how Jason became a product manager, and how UX Researchers and Product Managers collaborate.
This is really important as Product Managers (PMs) are the main stakeholders User Experience Researchers will collaborate with regularly.
We talk about what PMs expect from UX researchers and vice versa, working models, and what makes a successful collaboration.
Enjoy! Mad love, PEACE!!!

Hey Kevin. Thanks for all these great videos. I've been watching some and love them all especially the one when you have special guests. I really love the one you talked to your mentor. It definitely points me out to the right direction in terms of what I need to eventually become a UXR. I'm currently in UX Bootcamp and currently falling in love with the research aspect. I love the picture of you with a sign in a coffee shop. I copied you and interviewed some strangers about their stress with debt for one of my course projects. It was an amazing experience and I love it so much. Thanks for the idea. 😊One thing I need to ask. I always struggle to take notes during an interview. Many times I won't be able to record it and I feel like I can never write fast enough and ask questions at the same time. Any tips? Thanks again for putting your time and energy to share your experience and knowledge.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Glad to hear you're going out talking to strangers for your projects!! For your question - get somebody to help take notes for you! Or ask the participant if you can record the audio at least. Or, take notes, and let the participant know that you need some time to catch up! Another thing is to prepare your notes document ahead of time to have your main points, then you can just check off or put some quick notes here and there. IF you're using paper notes, use a multi-colored pen so you can quickly color code things! I may make a video on this !

You can use Word's "Dictation" feature or use voice-to-text, which can take words and document them into a note app. I have an 8 inch Samsung Note Tablet, so it's easy to carry like a clipboard and it helps me when I'm scribbling fast, bc the S Pen has this feature that can recognize my ugly script writing lol. I think even a Samsung Note cell phone does the same thing, but with more features. I already had a working Samsung se10, so I sprung for a tablet. Anyway, I'm sure iPhone also offers voice to text options too. Something to consider :)
