Where are you supposed to breathe in actual proper air though - move to some parts of the Alps or some parts of the Himalayas perhaps? Still hit & miss cause how to know what parts have clean unpolluted air with all the right negative ions and so forth? Air is like water because it's actually a fluid, you know what Emoto says about water - it also applies to air, so it isn't just the usual pollution everywhere that'd be the issue, it's aetherically polluted too. I think even you can see it - when you look at older footage of the world, say even before ww2, you can see how the air is way less polluted, energetically speaking I mean. Probably radiation has caused a huge amount of change to what the air is like everywhere.

Is there any literature about how this type of breathing works to achieve this state?

Nate did you find the literature you were looking for? Grof has numerous peer-reviewed articles. I don’t know at the moment if it’s happening- but neurological studies may be a good place to look - I’ve read that flow states of consciousness are shifting from being studied in positive psychology towards in neurological studies. As with kundalini related breathing practices.

"We [in modern psychology / psychiatry] are becoming more and more focused on suppression of [psychological] symptoms, and we call this 'therapy.' No, this is not therapy. In somatic medicine this would be very bad practice."

I really like his analogy to the car mechanic ripping out the dashboard warning lights and saying you've been treated... makes it understandable to a lot more people.

I have not met people who have benefited from Holotropic Breathwork. It doesn't work for me either. While running, a person breathes heavily, but this does not cause altered states of consciousness.

The merkabah meditation I learned was air and breathing based, so is chi kung (qi gong). Didn't work for me though. Mindfullness of Breathing did - a different Buddhist based meditation. But not anything spectacular, just that during using LSD it produced great 'peak' results. On its own it was very good for centering. I have something wrong with my sinuses and throat though, so air doesn't move through me the way it's supposed to.

Moon Watch it will if you don’t give up trying . Your sinuses will unblock themselves. I had that problem. I also did the kundalini breathing not his way it’s even more powerful and it works with practice . It can come natural as with myself . I did 6 hours straight and had a powerful spiritual awakening and I’m healing from sickness . It’s a life changing process once started and can’t be reversed. I did it on my own at home in my room and continue with it constantly in my daily life now . I have changed my technique myself so to have a more subtle experience now and it’s ongoing .
