Holotropic Breathwork Founder Stan Grof on Birth, Life, Breath, and Death

Iconic psychiatrist and founder of holotropic breathwork, Stanislav Grof, pulls up a seat at the 2017 Psychedelic Science Conference to discuss his area of expertise; birth archetypes, ego death, non-ordinary states of consciousness, and the questions that no one wants to attempt to answer.

Pain, choking, and sexual energy are key words and a key concept to understand here. Especially the Carradine example. Lots of layers in there. Thank you for being so wonderful and amazing Stan and sharing your knowledge and experience with us willingly. Marcus, great job. Awesome interview. You must do more. You make amazing interviews.

Namaste from India from where east asian and world's oldest spiritual traditions originated. I am of opinion that endeavour of every type of human activities including scientific, artistic etc lies in only 2 words Prana ~ universal singular energy Akasha ~ infinite space. To have glimpse of reality through Tantra which works on both prana and akasha are main elements. This video is one of the rare few videos which have tried to grasp the subject which cannot be explained by written or spoken words ( it can be only experienced ) Inner subtle subatomic breath which begins only when external breath through both nostrils seize for certain time. Thanks for sharing your profound insight and wisdom.

The beginning of spiritual practice, at least in the post axial religions, is having an ego, whether strong or weak. You can only get rid of the ego if you have an ego.

Alot of people are C section born so like would that change things in any important way that we should be aware of? also personally I was tied up with the umbilical cord tied around my neck and was faced the wrong way so had to be C sectioned jus wondering if this would cause issues with reliving a birth experience?

I'm not sure if it was Grof who mentioned this in one of his books, but I have read that people born with C section tend, in regards to the average, to be more neurotic and paranoid, follow conspiracy theories etc. This because their world of peace, was suddenly shattered by outside forces that operated beyond the veil of perceivable experience. People who still carry this trauma will tend to see dark forces, conspiracies and plots in every alley.

Jesse White Jane English wrote a book called ‘Different Doorway’ all about us Cesarean born individuals. It may help you understand the importance of some of these questions you have. I too had a Traumatic Birth, my mother and I both nearly died in my coming into this world. Its been a difficult source of information in my life, im fascinated yet scared to look into that hospital operation room in June 1974...

In holotropic work, when someone experiences c section at birth, they often go through life enduring hardships, and at the very last minute they experience being rescued.

11:09 - mysteries: The secret rites of Greek and Roman pagan religion, or of any ancient or tribal religion, to which only initiates are admitted. 25:10 - idealistic This refers to the philosophical term derived from: IDEALISM- Any of various systems of thought in which the objects of knowledge are held to be in some way dependent on the activity of mind. Often contrasted with realism. It is synonymous with: PANPSYCHISM- The doctrine or belief that everything material, however small, has an element of individual consciousness. NEUTRAL MONISM- The theory, first associated with Bertrand Russell and William James, that the world consists of one kind of primal entity or stuff which is fundamentally neither mental nor physical in character.
