this is like watching Spielberg interviewing Scorsese as far as video game filmmaking is concerned. Can't say enough good things about NoClip and 2PP, y'all raised the bar

After watching their work for over 20 hours (seriously you guys killed my productivity for a week), this is incredibly cathartic to watch. So glad to know that more is coming, but yeah I hope they fully recognize what an enormous achievement this doc series was. Just mind blowingly good

Watch first 20min of this podcast, then binged the doc in 3 days... A+ to 2 Player Prod and A+ to Noclip for bringing them on and gushing over their work.

Wonderful interview. I would watch a documentary of NoClip embedded at Double Fine to capture 2PP's creative process.

Even though they immediately downplayed it lol, I'm very excited to hear about Episode 33. I was saying on Ep32 that I really felt like the doc needed that last epilogue or something to get perspectives now looking back in the transition with a year or two distance to reflect. Incredible work and funny that after 20 hours, I'd go.. but what about more...? hahaha

I appreciate the niche this interview has found by talking deeply technical about filming, process, even file types and software versions. I've enjoyed MinnMax's and PMG's coverage of this, too, but each has gone in a slightly different direction. I guess that's only possible because of how massive this project was. Thanks Pauls, Asif, and Renat.

Super interesting chat! I work as a professional colorist and many years back I joined a stream of Paul color grading. He did a great job on that difficult footage, hats off :)

Great stuff. How it went for me: I've never played Psychonauts but I'd seen stuff about it, so I wasn't particularly attached to the series. NoClip mentions the documentary and I'm hesitant as it's a game I'm not necessarily emotionally invested in. But I do know of Tim and Brad Muir was always an amazing guest on Giant Bomb streams back in the day. I decide to pop on the first episode.. and then proceed to binge all of it over a few days. It was excellent and painful watching the creative process of making a game, but I also felt emotionally invested in these people and the game now, so I ordered a copy of Psychonauts 2. It felt like the least I could do was try it after all the time and energy they put in. I ended up finishing Psychonauts 2 over the next week (nearly Platinum'd) and I'm just very happy with how this whole series of events went for me. The documentary was worth watching and got me to play a game that wasn't really on my radar (for no particular reason.)

despite being totally different, reminds me a bit of the experience the filmmakers must have had on the documentary The Queen of Versailles 2012, which also starts one way and kinda transforms into something else mid-stream.

Wish they had answered the question about whether they ever had plans to follow up with Zak. Hopefully he makes it into the "reunion" episode in one way or another.

Referring to the people as characters kinda weirds me out, to be honest. Still, the documentary is superb.

They also refer to creeping around as embedding. ;) It's a term of the craft that achieves the distance you need to pull this kind of thing of. Makes sense to me. It's the kind of damage you need to make this profession workable.
