Interseeding Cover Crops into Corn | Central Platte NRD

The Central Platte NRD has been using test plots to better understand how to use cover crops for 36 years. This year's CPNRD/University of Nebraska-Lincoln Demonstration Project is testing what seed blends grow best within the crop canopy. Timelapse cameras and sensors that record light intensity and temperature are also used to help us understand how to make cover crop use more effective for producers.
The Central Platte NRD has been using test plots to better understand how to use cover crops for 36 years. This year's CPNRD/University of Nebraska-Lincoln Demonstration Project is testing what seed blends grow best within the crop canopy. Timelapse cameras and sensors that record light intensity and temperature were used throughout the growing season to help us understand how to make cover crop use more effective for farmers. The final stage of this project is to harvest the corn that the cover crops were interseeded into in June. Corn yields and cover crop growth will be monitored post harvest to help us better understand which cover crop mixes perform the best and provide the biggest benefit to producers.
