A lot of streaming services serve their files over HTTP, even for their native mobile apps. In fact, Apple requires streaming services' mobile apps to use live streaming over HTTP for better bandwidth control. There's plenty of non-browser HTTP usage primarily because the caching behaviors of HTTP make distributing the load of serving large numbers of clients far easier than with other protocols.

I was actually saying "Hell no!" to my monitor when Linus talked about Google moving everything to web interfaces. I want full control over my system and my files. This is why I use Linux, Libre Office, Thunderbird, Code::Blocks, Pidgin, FileZilla, Hexchat, KeePass, etc. I maintain methods of physically disconnecting peripherals so that I can control how much a breach affects me. I encrypt my files, I fragment website's data on me as best I can. I want to control my systems, and I won't hand over any control to any company without knowing that they are reliable and on my side. My only exceptions to this are when there is no better alternative, like with social platforms, however I will still support those who protect my privacy, even if it means a loss of convenience.

Most native mobile apps still use http to retrieve data, or even have screens that are plain web views using the embedded browser

I'm glad to see a video that points out the difference between the web and the Internet and kudos for bringing up Gopher without getting too far into it to confuse people. :)

The Internet includes Email, File Sharing, Bulletin Boards, Chat Rooms, World Wide Web and other tools/services. The World Wide Web is a part of the Internet. And also Internet and internet are two different things. The capital (I) Internet is the Internet as we know and use it and is a global internet. The lower case (i) internet means a network of computer networks, so even if you only have 5 offices located in 5 separate locations each with their own network of computers and you connect those 5 offices it can be called an internet though of course not on a global scale.

Lol why did I click this video when I already understand this. This is helpful if your very old or have a difficult time understanding technology. Other then that these videos are always informative and helpful.

Outlook is an awesome well organized and intuitive email service. I used to think it sucks until I got my hands on one from the company I'm working at. It's definitely better than Yahoo or google mail and, at the very least it's way better than that shit for a thing called lotus notes.

Actually, Hotmail is "Outlook" now. You can go on your same Hotmail account, but it's on Outlook. Maybe they realized that the program was pointless, so they changed the Hotmail... thing.

Linus's MLP analogies are getting more and more terrifying.

Recent example: My internet provider was attacked by a ddos attack on the dns severs, resulting in most of their users not being able to browse the web. But since only the dns servers were inaccessible, programs like Skype, Spotify, Steam and online games were still mostly usable as they they don't use the web which would require the dns servers. (Ddos: Distributed denial of service, its when hackers flood a site with requests past its capacity making it very hard to access to average Joe.) (Dns: Domain Name System, when you type in say google.com your computers sends a request to the dns server asking what google's IP address is since google.com doesn't mean much to your pc.)

I didn't realize you had to *drive through* Movie theaters, everything makes a whole lot more sense now! (*Revs Engine*)

GRIZZLY_GUY it's basically supersampling. Fitting a higher resolution picture through a lower resolution medium. It will look better, but not as good as a true higher res. medium.

I would really like to see a video on upsampling and downsampling based off the video released recently about 4k video

Linus is partly incorrect when he's telling that the web usage is slowing down. Ofc there is an increase in mobile and console app usage. But usually these apps make use of so-called web APIs. They don't serve HTML like a website do, but they still communicate over the HTTP or HTTPS protocol. So apps are using the web as backbone.

How about a video on MBR vs GPT partition styles? Or partitions in general.
