I can personally vouch for MAN trucks in the period of the late seventies & early eighties. I had a 20.321 & it never let me down all the years I had it, so reliable & fast too. Cardiff Transport had many 16.280`s doing work for British Steel hauling top weight & flying around the UK, so I knew they were a good truck. MAN then came out with a scorcher in the 16.361, sadly never got to drive one but that quickly became a `King-of-the-road-truck`.

The Mercedes LN wasnt the predecessor of the Actros. It was the predecessor of the Atego.

For me the MAN F2000 was the best truck. I had a 8x8 with 400 PS. Robust, quiet, simple, powerful. Unfortunately also a bit thirsty.

The 1988 DAF model, the Mercedes-Benz SK, the Volvo FH (1994 model) and the MAN F2000, are my favourite...!

I Still own a Mercedes SK. Its a lovley truck and when people see me on trucker festivals, they want to talk about that truck. Since the SK is so tiny compared to modern trucks, i get the same questions over and over and again. "Were do you sleep? And i smile and say "In the bed?" "😲that thing has a bed? were?" Me "Uhm...behind the seat?!" And people always want to look because they cant believe it. The second most question is "Can you fire it up? I want to hear the sound of a rel truck once more" Also many old school drivers tear up, when they see that truck. On the last festival a few of them said "I love the fact that you are here between the modern plastic show trucks. All of these guys call themself trucks, because the Boss allowed them chrome parts. But 85% of the drivers here today could not drive this truck, because of the manuel Mercedes "Duble H, split gearbox" Oh and please thats no bashing against show truck drivers, i like them too, but thats just propper driving without any assisting electronic or driver adds.

I like the way it’s called The International Truck of the Year Award, but only European trucks are judged 🤣🤣🤣🤣

​@@soposh5673 Here is how I feel about our trucks, The older simpler vehicles regardless of being American, Japanese, or European, are much better in quality than any modern American trucks of any variety Europe has always had good quality trucks for years if its an American truck thats good quality it more than likely is from the 70s. trucks from the 70s are still working regardless where in the world they were made. Modern european trucks are better than modern American Vehicles When it comes to American trucks the old Internationals Kenworths are very good trucks.

Viele Trucks kennt man noch . Auf einen Mercedes Benz SK habe ich LKW Führerschein gemacht. In der Firma habe ich auch noch den SK als Allradmaschine mit Bohraufbau gefahren. Wir hatten auch noch einen Volvo F 6 und einen MAN F9 als 3achsigen Tankwagen. Heute fahre ich am liebsten mit dem MAN TGS mit Hiab Ladekran. Der LKW hat so Features wie Automatikgetriebe,Tempomat usw. Der Ladekran hat Funkfernsteuerung das ist schon besser als beim laden dicht am Fahrzeug stehen zu müssen.

@@rainer2810 Beim SK bin ich bei dir. Mit den neuen MAN kann ich nichts anfangen. Finde ich schrecklich. War früher MAN Fan. Die ersten fahrten waren auf einen MAN F8. Den finde ich immer noch den besten von MAN. Jetzt hat VW da viel kaputt gemacht! Gute Fahrt weiterhin, wünsche ich!

Man Raba Saviem and RoMan Brașov were a concern and they built togeter trucks back in 70.

@@recycleman975 nope, in adition to some cosmetic updates on the bodywork on the cabin, and a new interiour, there's huge changes and developments on the drivetrain (engine and transmission) on SK compared to NG

@@recycleman975 NG has transmissions from ZF while the SK has transmissions made by Mercedes-Benz themselves. The engines have several updates that makes them more powerful and fuel efficient.

Good video with interesting content but without wishing to be too critical, the pronouncement of some of the manufacturers is simply wrong and spoils the video. ‘D.A.F’ is actually just pronounced DAF, like daft without the T. ‘Leeland’ is pronounced ‘Lay-land’. If I was to make a video about North American trucks then I’d learn how they are pronounced first.

This is not the best truck of the year award. It has nothing to do with it at all. A crappy price that means nothing at all. When DAF, for example, gets a price for a new truck, it stands a chance against most of the existing Volvos or Scania.

the truck of the year award has always been about industry leading innovation. its why DAF won truck of the year 2022 because its the first to use the new EU tractor length regulations. its currently slated to win 2023. because the DAF XD is the first production truck which will drive 500 kilometers on a single charge. it beat out the Scania super because the Scania super has less range. and also does not yet use the new EU extended cab regulations. many other brands have won the price, for completely different innovations. the Ford F max won 2019, and that thing is a piece of shit, but hey. its real nice for developing countries. which is why it won.
