INTERIOR & EXTERIOR REDECORATION, ANTIQUE COSTUME SHOPPING, A PERFECT RUG & A PRICELESS TREASURE!

We redecorate a room that was already "finished", move plants to begin a new garden project, go shopping for authentic Edwardian costumes for an upcoming Belle Époque weekend, find the perfect hand needlepointed rug for the Orangery, use our own citrus fruit for Ginger Marmalade, and my father gives me a priceless family heirloom-treasure: John Audubon's book of hand-coloured etchings "Birds of America".

ABOUT US:
Hello! I’m Vivienne, the châtelaine of a small 19th century neo-Renaissance castle in the Loire Valley of France, which I share with my delightful (and wonderfully funny!) husband, Simon, our daughter, and -whenever possible- lovely friends and family.
This is not our first chateau! 23 years ago, we bought a much larger castle nearby, which we loved with all our hearts. However, nearly 2 decades, many happy memories, countless renovations, and several small fortunes later, we made the very difficult, empty-nesting decision to downsize. With great luck and perseverance, we found our current petit château, which we are now decorating and updating with love, humour, comfort, and -of course- antiques and art!
We adore France and its many unique facets: its people, culture, landscapes, wine, food, art, and history. We also love being surrounded by châteaux, both public and private, which we can explore together! After 20 years here, we have learned many things about living in France, renovating châteaux, and appreciating the extraordinary riches surrounding us. We originally decided to make these videos as a way to share our lives with our loved ones worldwide during the pandemic lockdowns. However, we soon realised that many others are at home alone, and it is our privilege to open our home to you, our new friends. We hope you will join us on our adventures in this exceptional location, and we look forward to sharing a little Château Love!

Vivienne , you always manage to pull my heartstrings with your vlogs! It was so touching to have your dad gift you the Audubon bird book, and when you hug him at the end, it’s so lovely. I think it’s because our dear dad who is 84 years old is in hospital (but improving) and it makes you treasure your loved ones so much more. Also when I heard the songs that you and your siblings were singing at the pub, I chuckled because they are the songs that we sing here in Nova Scotia, Canada! How cool is that? You are a lady after my own heart! Can’t wait to see your belle epoch garments!

Greetings from Toronto Canada. I absolutely adore your vlogs. I am a transplanted Hungarian born senior, who comes alive anywhere in Europe, especially in France. That region where you have your chateaux is especially dear to my heart. I am now in my late seventies, thus, no more overseas trips due to mobile issues, but I thoroughly enjoy your weekly vlogs. I also loved your trips to Cyprus, since my only living relative ( first cousin) lives in Larnaca. She now has to visit me instead me flying over. Love THAT island. Your trip to Egypt brought back many wonderful memories Venice too.

How VERY privileged we all are that this beautiful talented woman, and her handsome wonderful husband share their lives with us! You are both so generous and gifted in your individual areas of your lives. With all my heart I am very grateful that your father and family were part of this vlog. I lost my father at 11 years old on the heals of which came the gradual destruction of my city where our family had a thriving business for decades. It was all a long time ago as I am in my 70’s these days. I dreamt of traveling to Britain and Europe when I was young but other things took precedence. I still love hearing the French language spoken, which I studied for 8 years in grade school. Also Italian and Spanish each for a year or two. I can still trill my R’s 😊! Take care, thank you, looking forward to you next post!

I wouldn't vacuum that rug. Once a year or two just fold it up, take outside, and lay it over a clothes line or fence to gently beat it/brush it off. I recommend sweeping and spot cleaning in place when needed. About the palm, I'm not a gardener, but I think pruning might be worth a try. Research that first!

Your roses are absolutely gorgeous! In case you didn't know - chives flowers are edible, just like their leaves. @ 17:58 you can see the mauve-purple flowers atop the green stems. Leave some to go to seed - they'll self-seed near the plant and grow new shoots in Spring. To eat the flowers - the centers are like miniature onions that pack a punch of flavor - wash the flowers in lightly salted water (the salt is not tolerated by insects so they vamoose out of the flowers and greenery) - gently rinse then put unused flowers in a zippered food bag to refrigerate - these will keep for up to 3 weeks. To add to salads, simply take the flowers apart from the "globe" and sprinkle over the greens. Lightly season with your favorite vinaigrette or salad dressing, toss and enjoy or sprinkle a few more on top to decorate. I also add the florets to scrambled eggs, sliced mushroom with real mayonnaise sandwiches and a host of other delectable dishes. They're pretty and are Summer harbingers as much as dandelion flowers of Spring.

OMG! Vivienne, I've grown both Bonica and a sport of it called Royal Bonica. It was the first shrub rose to win an American Beauty Award. They're both loaded with beautiful pink blossoms, armfuls of them. I have to admit that Royal is an improvement of the original. The buds are so perfect and the color of the petals seems deeper. I'm glad your roses leapt back to life. They can be so forgiving.

I just love what you have picked up in the way of clothing. The bowler hat was such a great find and the pin striped trousers too. Knowing your wonderful sewing skills I am sure you can whip up a long skirt easily. Some sort of flouncy long sleeved blouse with plenty of lace will look great. Your hat will look fine with a turned up brim at the front plus plenty of large flowers to fill inside the brim with perhaps some feathers. I am sure you can make or find a cameo brooch too. Your gardens are looking so fabulous too. I think your beautiful bronze deer is fabulous. You're so clever making that ginger marmalade too. I'm sure it is delicious! The very beautiful book from your father on birds is a real gem. I think you might be able to scan some of the coloured plates and then print the images for framing to hang in different chateau rooms. They are most splendid indeed. What a wonderful Dad you have. How lucky are you I ask myself? Thanks as always for sharing such joy Simon and Vivienne. Many greetings from down under, David

Vivienne, your talents abound! There is an app for plants. I don't recall the name. However, not only will it tell you the name of a plant from just a photograph, but it will tell you its water and light requirements. I think it will even diagnose your plant from a photograph and tell you if it needs more or less water, etc. I think Philipp and Anna had it for one of their sponsors. Of all the chateaux shown on vlogs, I think you've done the best job of incorporating comfortable decor, but in keeping with the time period of the chateau. So beautiful and well done! Your father is very handsome. What a fun night with your siblings! It reminded me of an Irish pub.

I every bit adore the Edwardian style of clothing! But wish i could sew and you do such a fine job and under stress yet! So exciting to watch your vlog and actually the name alone Chateau Love, brings one to a feeling of peace and joy. Thank you, Vivienne and Simon, for taking the time to make the vlogs n take o us along on some of your journeys. I know you have so much to do and are busy al the time, but what you do you do well, and that is most important. Great to look back at the whole piece when finished and see that you can feel pride in the efforts and finished products. *Enjoyed watching and learning a little bit about your sewing strategies!* (Nice seeing Steve and Sarah once more, they are a sweet couple, I been watching them as they were buying their Chateau after living in Canada. )

Your family treasure is amazing! I too have a similar book that dates back to 1926 -"Birds of Western Canada". The name inside is that of my great-great aunt. I find it amazing as the colored plates of the Audubon book is very similar to mine. Only thing is, my book is endorsed by the Canadian Department of Mines and the Victoria Museum (located in British Columbia and renamed The Royal BC Museum). The color plates are small (2 x 3 inches) and 4 to a page. Nevertheless, it has been a valuable resource for many years and treasured for both emotional and heritage reasons. It's lovely to see that your father gifted this to you and Colin.

With the summer and increasing heat your plants will benefit from a humidifier in the room, try misting your palm plant daily and if possible a plant tray filled with pebbles and water will also help increase the humidity for your palm but do invest in a humidifier all your plants will benefit from it😊🇨🇦

If the soil is too wet and not allowed to dry out between waterings that may be your problem or possibly over-fertilizing can cause yellowing. The roses look great and I like the new plant bed around the water feature.

We have a bird of paradise that is kept in our south facing conservatory which gets very warm in the summer months. We have had it for over ten years and it started flowering after a few years. Last year it was outgrowing its fairly large pot so we cut it into four plants and kept two of them. This year we have had three flowers already from the two plants. We just water and occasionally feed them, they are very easy to maintain. Looking forward to next week's video 😊

There are few things more delicious than béarnaise sauce with steak! A filet mignon with béarnaise is my birthday dinner every year! Such an amazing treat! 😋🥰😘 Love all the vintage clothes shopping and I can’t wait until the rest of the costumes come together! I have no doubt you will create more masterpieces! I love all the old styles from different eras! Speaking of style... I hate to burst any bubbles but Crocs can be functional, they can be comfortable, they can be quite useful in a garden or hospital, they can also be colorful but at no time in their existence are they or will they ever be stylish! Sorry... not sorry. 😉😂🤣🤦🏻‍♀️😳😬🥴 What an amazing gift from your father! I hope you get further inspired to create more magnificent bird plates or other bird themed artistic endeavors! Such a loving gift! 💗🥰💗

Vivienne, I can’t tell you (although I think I do - a lot!) how much I love your videos. I love the content and PLEASE show us more of your painted plates and in detail? They are gorgeous and so too are your roses, I was in rose heaven looking at your garden. Your orangery is the most beautiful of rooms and what a breathtaking rug you have just added. The book by Audubon was such a treasure and what a loving gift from your father. I can’t wait to see more of your spectacular costume sewing, Simon is a great sport when it comes to dressing up occasions too. Love the bowler hat! 🏰🥰🙏🏻

What is not to like on your vlogs? I enjoy them so very much. I noticed in your flowers a silvery plant that is called a Dusty Miller. Might I suggest a plant called Silver Mound. I believe it's a perennial and just beautiful. Gardening....playing in the dirt. What fun.
