This is the smartest drum n bass I've ever heard

Walking through Cheltenham UK recently and saw a young woman in her early twenties... wearing a Makoto T-shirt. Says it all. We were right all along.

The reason this type of drum n bass is seen a revival is because it was light years ahead of itself.

The fact that this style of dnb has seen such a revival lately is so reassuring and uplifting. Can't wait for a 90's techstep/darkstep revival.

Two-step, jungle, yes please. Techstep, okay. Darkstep, no thank you - it took drum 'n bass to a dark and unhealthy place for far too long in my opinion.

@@marschantescorcio1778 I disagree, unhealthy is quite a big accusation. Atmospheric is such a broad term, I don't see how it can't be a darker atmosphere. The sounds of Dom & Roland and tech itch from that time are still the best dnb has ever been in my opinion.

atmospheric jungle was pioneered back in the 90's - IDM has always been a stupid label imo. Everything else is not intelligent to dance to tf? Haha

As a whole music genre intelligent and liquid DNB from the 90s has just aged so good! Like where these artists even making music for the time, or did the plan on it not really hitting home until 30 years later? Was it the playstation 1 era that burned amen breaks into our brains as children and now were all hunting for a nostalgic hit of our childhood? Has the formula been lost to time? I don't have the answers I'm just here for deep cuts.

I need more songs like this, the whole compilation was spectacular. It's rare to come across an entire compilation where 99 percent of the songs are extremely good. I have been coming back to this over and over when my mood drops and I am reminded how extraordinary we had in the 90s. DNB don't even sound like this anymore. Because all of these songs are from the 90s. I looked them up and said "No wonder they sound so damn good!" I never could get into the popular Euro Trance stuff like Hideaway or the Real McCoy, this music is much better! I have tried listening to all these songs separately without them being in the mix, and they are much better mixed together. Each time a song transition into another it blends so well and sounds like one entire song.

I got a 24" Yamaha mounted in the cement floor of a Jungle room off the end of the house. The seismologists for 500 miles are groovin to these beats on sheets.

I first came in to contact with drum and bass with this kind of late 90s atmospheric stuff. this is what I would describe as drum and bass when someone asks me. great mix

An incredible compilation of names I didn't know beforehand. Brilliantly arranged as well right to the way the last 2 tracks really complete things nicely (That P.B.K. track is perfection!). Faultless collection for those into, or wanting to discover more about electronic and ambient sound design around hypnotic beats. Also, I noticed the colour changes on each track as it goes along, good touch. I like to do similar changes like that. Will be continuing on to the following volumes soon! Thank you.

Excellent shout. I actually researched whether ‘Observation’ was available on vinyl, and found the ‘Lost Files’ albums in the process. Don’t think they were ever pressed onto vinyl (sadly), but still great to find more music.
