Intel Compute Stick M3 - Can it survive in 2023?
Ойындар
The Intel Compute Stick M3 was released in 2016 as a follow-up to the original Atom CPU powered version in 2015. Is this 'potato PC' still useful in 2023 or has time been too unkind and is it simply an unusable experiment relic from the past? Let's find out!

Just in case you were not aware, there are stripped down versions of Windows 10 available. They work really well on these Intel compute sticks. I own 10 of the first generation Intel sticks and 3 of the second generation Intel sticks. If you use this stripped down version of Windows 10 it only takes up about 5 GB for the installation. The difference in performance is quite noticeable.

I use these devices as a media center pc. I actually prefer the first generation models because they are more portable than the second generation. That all comes down to the power supply that the second generation sticks force you to use. Even though it uses a usb-c cable for power delivery, the outlet Port is a proprietary one and if you lose that you essentially cannot use your Intel compute stick. Not to mention, the size! It's way too bulky to lug around in my opinion. The first generation Intel compute stick Powers off a regular 5 volt 2 amp micro USB cable. Nothing proprietary about that connection. These are much smaller and easier to carry around.

@@i_used_adblock_to_watch_this Please explain more about this 'propriety usb-c cable' for the M3 version, so in other words you cannot use any typical USB-C cable for example one that comes with your smartphone to power the device?
I honestly don't think there's really any use case for this device that can't be done with a laptop (or dare I say, tablets) especially with that steep price tag. 200-300 USD could've gotten you some decent Gen 6 or Gen 7 laptop nowadays, comes free with keyboard and trackpad too! and if you _must_ use that 4K TV you can just get a HDMI cable with the change.
To be honest I ordered one off of eBay for $55 and was very disappointed in it
