    Sounds very good...could definitely use this for tracking sources too and even though I am not a mastering engineer (but I do have to make my own home masters of unreleased tracks to play out), this will come in handy with some software to give this "expensive sheen" (for lack of a better word) to my own masters, until they get sent to a proper mastering studio.

    Are the audio test section of this rerecorded as well? I am asking because I noticed a lot more difference this time around. That said, when I listened to the original upload I did listen to it thru Beyerdynamic dt770..while now on this video I am listening thru my Amphion one18. I am personally way more positive about this box after this listen. Btw..I have a question as well for you for your Q&A videos or even a dedicated video about it :) I am wondering about those power outlet 19" rack things where you can plug in multiple gear into it (power). An example of one of those boxes (if you are not sure what I am talking about would be: Adam Hall PCL 10 Pro) Would you mind talking a bit about those? What is their actual purpose? Do I need one? Why do I need one? I don't have any outboard gear except the Amphion Amp and UA Apollo Twin. Is it worth getting one to plug my Amp, audio interface and Mac into? This box has been a mystery to me for far too long, hope you can shed some light on it for me :)

    Same. For mastering, the RND MBP is better than this unit. I mostly mix, but went for the Fusion instead of the MBP (which is what I would get if I were primarily mastering).

  • @unionstudios4415

    @unionstudios4415

    Agreed, it's a mix tool for sure, but a great one! I love mine, used a tiny bit or a lot it ends up on nearly every mix I do now. Have an MBP as well but I see that as a very different tool (despite some crossover). The one down side of the Fusion is that the saturation circuit is quite noisy. Small price to pay for such a "live" sound I guess.

    Lol, don't worry you haven't hurt my feelings and money is not my concern. I was actually recommended to get into 500 series stuff by an engineer friend who mixes for large clients and finds the space and ability to transport his gear to other studios more useful than any perceived loss in quality. Is the circuitry very different between 19" and 500 series modules, in your opinion?

  • @derekirons2615

    @derekirons2615

    5 жыл бұрын

    Jay Tee-Bee Jay Tee-Bee it comes down to the power supply size most of all. The 19” rack can of course hold a bigger power supply. Until companies make lunch box’s with an equal or greater power supply 500 series will never equal 19” rack. Now SSL XRACK is great because it’s bigger then 500 series n worth investing in if you like SSL. As far as your friend likes to travel with 500 series for convenience n doesn’t care if he loses ten or fifteen percent of real mojo tells me he’s more into what works for him - NOT caring about making the best pro sounding record for people paying him good money. I met a few losers who take advantage of people hiring them online n telling them he’s mixing on a ssl or neve console when he’s not to bs the client which I find shameful n disgusting. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    I feel like you failed at your goal of matched level bypassed and in. And also it was hard to tell what was “in” or bypassed. You never said. Enjoyed the review but please let us know! And also would have liked to hear the extreme settings of each section.

    Would have been better to sweep and make more movements when demoing. Just turning it off and on isn't very helpful.

    It seemed make it sound more controlled / dull - I think I preferred it without. Most of the difference I noticed was in the high end. I really I don't think the unit made that much difference to the sound at all. Nothing that couldn't be accomplished by any simple EQ.

    Fourteen minutes and thirty eight seconds before you EVER get to HEAR the dam thing ! Streaky must seriously like the sound of his own voice :-) Personally, I could care less what someone thinks about a product, I would rather have a professional give me sound examples and let my ears judge for themselves but hey, who the hell am I to question the streakster ?

    That's the one thing holding me back. Like $2500 for something made in China. I can't bring myself to do it. I feel like SSL is taking the piss and laughing at me.

    Do yourself a favour and skip to 15:25. Nice demo but fuck me mate 15 minutes of waffle is overkill. Also as a mastering engineer I’m still not sure why you would back the signal off using the input trim instead of the output trim. Because the processing comes after the inputs that would have made a lot more sense. I’m still on the fence about this, I could go with a Focusrite Mixmaster for £1400 less and to my ears it still does a (similarly) great job, even after all these years
