Installing REDUCTION GEARS into a GQ/GU PATROL

Jones & I are installing 63% reduction gears from Marks 4wd Adapters into our transfer cases to crawl slower with 35" & 37" tyres. We like the speed our high range gears are already with the 4.11 diff gears for the TD42 but we need to be able to crawl slow in low range.

Nice man, it’s not a perfect how to, follow the instructions for that, but if you ever do it it’ll help just with the order of things and putting it back together because it’s a bit of a jigsaw you have to put them back a certain way.

i just did 85 reductions last week in my gu, those extra ball bearings and pin stuffed me over hard, i spent hours trying to figure them out and only worked it out via some exploded diagrams from nissan europe

Do you run 4.1s with your 37s and ran them with 35s prior? I like the idea of going reduction gears rather than 4.6s. Also, as a fitter and turner, I loved watching this 😂. Hammer swinging, using the old bearings, dirty parts. It was an absolute party!! Loved it! Great channel and awesome it’s a a bloke from my hometown of launny!

37’s and 4.11 for the win, couldn’t agree more. TDS are a high comp, low RPM torquey engine.. it’s like people who put 6bts in.. they don’t go to fuckin 4.6’s haha, they go to 3.5’s. face palm dude. 👍🏻 only issue I had was low range hence the reductions.

Yeah for sure, slower is always the go, it’s just if you are in hilly country or bogholes or even on tracks where you’re covering a great distance, I’m quite often already going between 3rd and 4th with the 63% so wouldn’t wanna be using 5th under too much load or switching to high range all the time that’s all. But it’s also preference. Whatever works, works, the 63% for me so far is bloody unreal. Compared to what it was. Trying to crawl with 37’s and 4.11’s pre-reductions, especially descending was a nightmare with the shitty vacuum in GQs
