Installing Power Commander 5 & PAIR system removal (K7 GSX-R1000)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

How to install a Power Commander 5, change spark plugs, and remove the PAIR system on a 2007 or 2008 Suzuki GSX-R1000.
NOTE: If you are planning to flash your ECU, the eliminator plugs are unnecessary, as the flash itself will disable the FI light.

What is the pair valve mod doing for me ?

Removing the PAIR system has no effect on performance. Blocking it off is done to prevent backfiring and popping in aftermarket exhausts (which some people like), but it also needs to be blocked when you are using an O2 sensor to tune the fuel map, because the extra oxygen coming into the exhaust will throw off the sensor's measurements.

Right on thank you brother ! You are a huge freakin help man ! I wish I could have you on a direct line lol I have the k8 and I’m trying to iron out all the issues it has and I’m really debating on either an ecu flash or a PC … but as you’ve said they are hard to come by the 3-5 and I don’t want to have a restricted module

An ECU flash is the cheapest and simplest way to remove ALL factory restrictions on the bikes, top speed governor, timing retarders, etc. You can also change the fuel map with a flash to suit your exhaust. The drawback to a flash is that if you ever change the exhaust, the only way to adjust the fuel map is to pay to flash it again, unless you have a flashing tool and do it yourself. Also an ECU flash is the ONLY way to de-restrict a brand new GSXR, because they only have 1 throttle valve which is controlled by the computer, NOT THE RIDER. There is no way to bypass that with a plug, it MUST be flashed. But the older GSXRs with 2 throttle valves like ours, you could still do either a flash, or bypass plugs. The bad part about the plugs is that they are more expensive and add some weight (Power Commander, STV bypass plug, X-TRE plug, & O2 Sensor bypass plug), but it doesn't mess with the ECU, so all you have to do to reverse everything is unhook them. Also the power commander is nice, because if you ever change the exhaust or intake setup it can be easily re-tuned to match. So there you have it! Here are some cool videos of Brock from Brock's Performance demonstrating the factory restriction difference on an older bike with 2 throttle valves and a new bike with 1 throttle valve: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eYiVlrNxdJq9dLw.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/l2SIktJwhNa8Y9Y.html

If I will run only a PC V, is it the pair removal necessary? Do you need to remove all the pair system or could be sufficient only to install the electronic pair excluder?

@@ItalianRacingTeamTV you don’t need to remove it, just block it off from getting air from the air box somehow when you are tuning so it doesn’t throw off your oxygen sensor.

Just curious, why do you prefer a power commander over a custom flash? (if you address it in the video sorry I'm only like a quarter through)

Two reasons, one with add-ons and a PC everything is easy to reverse, just unhook them. Two, I like to do all my own work on my bikes, that's half the fun to me. If I were to ship my ECU to a shop and say "Here, make my bike faster" that takes all the fun out of it for me. If I would ever flash a bike, I would want to flash it myself with a flashing tool.

@@lonelyryder7441 Have you never had issues with the power commander breaking in some way and leaving you stranded? Seems like that’s a lot of other people’s draw back with it.

Lots of things can leave you stranded, broken chain, broken cables, STV failure, anything can happen. I've never had a PC fail on me, but it can happen sure. Yes, an ECU flash is the cheapest and most effective way to mod a bike, and the ONLY way to de-restricted newer bikes with a single computer-controlled throttle valve, but I decided to go the route of piggyback modules on the K7 because with the older bikes that still had 2 throttle valves you can get away with that. There are pros and cons to both, Revzilla made a decent video about it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ln-jtsSkm9LVj6w.html

You were supposed to remove the reed screws and the metal plates that were held in place with screws, no need for drilling, but good video💪🏿

I thought about that after I made the video, but it was kinda too late at that point. Oh, well...On the Z1000 there was no need for a complete removal of the reed valves because they made a cutout for the pins.
