Installing a Light on a Utility Pole. Lighting up the future equipment parking area.

In this video we are installing a dusk till dawn light on a utility pole. I first have to extend the trench the wire is buried in over to the base of the light pole. We will run the wire in PVC conduit on the pole. We will also install a GFCI outlet on the pole, so we have a convenient place to plug in for power.

Anytime I climb a ladder that is against something round, utility pole, up a tree to cut limbs etc. I always take a ratchet strap up with me and secure the ladder to the pole/tree. It works great to stabilize the whole thing so you can work freely without having to hold the ladder from sliding around on the surface.

New to your channel. Love it! One suggestion... You might think about putting a #6 solid copper ground wire up to the light. It can be just stapled to the pole and terminated on one of the lag screws mounting the light. Drive an 8ft ground rod at the base of the pole and clamp the wire to it. I have installed th is kind of light for years and find they are hit by lightning fairly often. The ground wire can save you a lot of ruined electrical appliances as it can bleed off most lightning strikes. May never happen, but better safe than sorry! have a great day!

I think that light is a bit dim for the application, also it's pointing in the wrong direction, if this was my place i would put a LED floodlight, facing the direction of the equipment, I'd have that light controlled by a switch on the pole, and I'd keep that other light where it is, on a "dusk till dawn" auto switch, to give lighting to the general area. As an electrician I've designed lighting solutions for many farms and industrial properties, good luck, I like what you are doing to your place. I wish you all the best.
