Installing a leach line with diversion valves

In this video I am installing a new leach line and diversion valves. The existing leach lines were in failure. The plan is to install the new leach line and use the diversion valves to shut down the existing leach field. This will allow the existing leach field time rejuvenate. Over a 5 to 10 year period, sludge (the black stuff) can break down and an old leach line can become usable again. With very little room for a tractor I decide to use pick and shovel to get the job done.

Thank you. Projects like this one can be hard on the body so I try not to schedule them back-to-back. I'm sure I will be back there at some point installing a new tank, so that should be fun. Thanks for watching.

Never heard of Orangeberg pipe but we found some beautifully preserved cedar water pipe on 6th street downtown Los Angeles about 10 years ago.

Thank you! The soil was sandy and made for quick digging except for the random chunks of concrete etc. But still a good workout.

Interesting to see how that was tackled, I'm not a septic guy, but a plumber thats been around a lot of septic systems and been involved hydrojetting etc. Up in BC I don't think any septic guy would make repairs like that these days as the rules are very strict here now, I would think they would have installed new 1200 tank and replaced the field, looked tight so i'm guessing the new field would be along the side of the house where the gates are......It would be nice to give different options on how and why you choose to do each job in your videos.....Great job as pine handle operator...don't know many owners doing that...they choose a machine all day long...lol Never heard of keeping an existing field...thats new to me. I notice on a couple videos you use a 90 fitting horizontal...our plumbing code only permits a drop into a 90....two 45 have to be used in horizontal...same for the tee wyes, they have to wye with 45. Is it hard to get sceptic licence in California? Great content keep it up!

Thank you for watching. Codes seem to be different all over the place. There is no side yard only a deck which will probably have to be removed at some point to make room for a proper septic tank.

No, I have not. I have put an edge on digging bars and pick axes. That really helps cut through the roots.

No disrespect but any man that throws soil eight feet away from his trench that has to be used to cover the ditch back is suspect work smarter not harder

No disrespect taken. I have a good friend that has worked with me for many years, and I have heard him say that a hundred times. It is good advise to all. Take your time and think things through. Make a plan. Don't paint yourself into a corner. On this project I wanted to leave room for the wheelbarrow on one side of the trench and I was chucking the dirt into the patio area in an effort not to cover the plants in the landscaped area. Thanks for your comment.
