Installing a Bathroom Vent | Fix Attic Moisture | Man About Home

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This bathroom vent fan was installed incorrectly by a hack contractor. It was blowing warm humid air into the attic for all these years. So, I had to correct this problem to help dry my attic out.
I installed a new vent in the roof above the bathroom, and a new vent fan in the bathroom ceiling. They're connected with insulated flex duct to prevent condensation from forming.

I am appalled this video doesn't have more Likes than the other videos I've watched! It's so detailed, and as precise as it gets from end to end. I appreciate that!

Great video and detailed info about the install! Have this same issue I’m working on at the moment in my bathroom. Having to replace a bit of drywall and the piping for the new fan since the old one was 3” uninsulated ducting and filled with years of hardened debris.

My home was built 20 years ago. It was a custom home and the contractor laid 3 exhaust fan flexible ducts onto the soffit. Not connections, just laid them down.

That's annoying! I found that some bath fan instructions actually say they can be installed that way. But if the soffit vents are doing their job, they're flowing air up into the attic, which will exit above. So bath vent exhaust in the soffit area will be pulled into the attic. That's not good. Did you notice how black the plywood is where my vent was originally terminating? That's mold. Thanks for watching!

My bathroom with cathedral ceilings has no exhaust fan. What trade should I contact, HVAC and a roofer?

I would think a good general handyman should be able to help. Thanks for watching!

Did your vent come with the pipe extension (the part that sticks into attic)? When they redid my roof they put on a new vent but nothing extends into the attic. I just found the duct lying on the attic floor but don't know how to attach it to the vent. Any ideas?

It sounds like they put a vent in the new roof, but it wasn't connected to the bathroom fan by a duct. Is that correct? It sounds like you could ask a handyman to connect the duct from the bath fan to the roof vent. It's important to get that fixed so the bath fan isn't blowing moisture into the attic, which could start to cause mold. And that's very bad. Thank you for watching!
