Installing 4 Culverts In The Driveway

Ойын-сауық

Installing 4 culverts in the driveway. Back at the pond job and today I'm putting in 4 24" culverts so the water from the field can drain into the pond. I'm doing this so the water will not wash out the driveway, and with the driveway built up it will help drain the water to the culverts. I still need to get some rip rap and place around the culverts but I am waiting until I finish the base rock on the road. Thanks for watching! #EliteEarthworks #Takeuchi #Culverts

    This project is huge with all kinds of interesting things going on. You did the Coliseum on that last job but you never warned me that you were going to dig the Panama Canal, too!!!! I think the culverts came out good even though it was a bit of a pain getting them in place. You got everything in before those in-between walls collapsed so it's for the best now anyway. Super nice work and great entertainment for the whole family.

    That driveway reminds me of an area in South Dakota where we went pheasant hunting. The land is pretty flat and they raised the roads up. They had culverts for creeks to pass through but heavy rains would run over the road and wash them out. They had tried bridges but water would run around one end or the other and wash the approaches out. They finally put dips in the roads paved in concrete and just let the water run over it. There would be 3 or 4 inches of water running over the road normally. In a heavy rain, more could run over making the road impassable for a short time but at least it didn't wash out and take days to repair.

    Yeah we talked about that incase it does flood but they wanted to try this since they aren’t paving the road for a few years.

    The few times I had to place a culvert I always dumped in 57 rock as a bedding and then rocked the culvert a bit to settle it. Your work looks good as always! Some people would place a culvert and backfill only to have the bottom wash out and the culvert sink and get silted up.

    I would have put the clay just up over the culverts and packed the ends of the culverts before spreading stone. That stone is going to keep spilling out between the culverts as you drive near the edge.

  • @eliteearthworksllc

    @eliteearthworksllc

    This clay is always in clumps and it’s not really loose like the red clay. Once I place the rip rap along the ends of the pipe the stone will fill in the voids and it should hold everything in place

    I love your videos but I have a suggestion for an interesting improvement. In addition to your explaining the job why not take a still shot off the drone footage showing the entire job. Then you can show the shot and use an electronic stylus to show the actual plan. That way the viewer can better connect the progress to the outcome. I have not seen this technique used on any other excavating youtube site. You could be the first.

  • @eliteearthworksllc

    I could try that but there is no plans for this job. Most of the jobs I get I design as I go or just visualize the end product. This site they gave me an idea what they were looking for then just let me go to work and make the call on most of the layout
