Thanks so much, I have been trying to get my vcp and vfp to talk to each other with no success, but you hit it on the head at the end. Your right, very little videos out there and content to learn from, not even real books like cisco have. Getting images for gns3 has been difficult.

Even I have persmisions to download vMX Eval, there wasn't listed 18.2 any file available to download, maybe 17.1 did show as option to download. But looking at your screen I rang juniper support. So thanks for the tip.

Excellent videos, both this and the Proxmox one! I got GNS3 running on Proxmox, and installed and modeled vMX exactly as you demonstrated, but I can't console into either plane and it's doesn't look like the telnet ports are actually up when running a port scan on GNS3 VM. I'm on Proxmox 7.2, all the latest packages.

Unfortunately I dont have any insight on Proxmox 7.2, I know there were some issues with 7.1 so I have just kept mine on 7.0 (still running debian updates though). Be sure that your processor type is set to host and see what google has to say, good luck!

Hi, I install a remote GNS3 server on ubuntu 20.04 The installation has been completed successfully. About GNS3: I choose the option: run application on remote server. I upload cisco IOS 7200 through Dynamic preference. I uploaded it and it was successful. However, I need upload image of mikrotik RouterOS and I have problem with QUEMU. Output error is as follows: error while starting MikroTikCHR7.11.2-1: KVM acceleration cannot be used (/dev/kvm doesn't exist). It is possible to turn off KVM support in the gns3_server.conf by adding enable_kvm = false to the [Qemu] section. KVM acceleration cannot be used (/dev/kvm doesn't exist). It is possible to turn off KVM support in the gns3_server.conf by adding enable_kvm = false to the [Qemu] section. When I used a local host to run GNS3, I installed VM GNS3 and resolved the problem. However, I not sure how to install a GNS3-VM on a remote server and interconnect it with it. Note: The server is a Dell R630, It has a environment that I must not affect. I was allowed to use a physical server space to set up a lab. I hope you help me

When you rename interfaces for FP rename Adapter 2 as NotUsed and start from Adapter 3 as ge-0/0/0 then interfaces will match with GNS3 when you enable to show interfaces. Well, that was actually in earlier versions. Now maybe not.

Yeah honestly the naming is a bit confusing. I have been working on getting the vQFX running it has been the same headache.

That means your vCP and vFP are not communicating. Near the end of this video I have some troubleshooting tips (19:08 - Troubleshooting) give that a review, and if those dont help let us know! Its most likely your em1 connection is not on the correct interface. Sometimes it can take a while for both components to fully boot and negotiate with each other, espeically if your vm has little power.

if it's only ge-0/0/0 not shown? So seems it just not displayed in sequence, but if you have any ge-x/x/x and you sure that you have done everything right then maybe find where in this guide docs.gns3.com/docs/how-to-guides/importing-vmx-and-vqfx-into-gns3/#legacy-vmx-the-single-vm-pre-release-versions says about in CLi root@% grep vm_ /boot/loader.conf. But this possibly was more in older versions.

@@boolve Yeah that is for the legacy vMX (14.x i think) that came on one VM. I was wrong about ge-0/0/0, it is out of sequence as you suggested but does work.

Could you please tell why you choose exactly 18 version for uploading to GNS3? Do you have any insides that exactly this version good for virtualization?

It was the version Juniper supplied, which all works out. Most major features (at least for routing) have been in place since version 17.x. I have been studying for the JNCIS-SP using this setup, I will let you know if it was not adequate.

Hi eugeneonline, just a quick update I took the JNCIS-SP exam last week and passed, this lab was more than enough to prepare me. You should be fine using version 18 for now. As far as I know there have not been any major changes.

Hey man I just started doing Juniper stuff and I noticed that you haven't posted in a while. I don't know if you got discouraged or something but I would love to see more content from you. Could you by any chance also show how to initially configure a vqfx switch? Thank you.

I appreciate the words of encouragement! I actually have a newborn at home now so recording is a lot harder, that being said I was planing on doing the vQFX, even started it over the weekend. Should be out soon. I am thinking of doing some BIRD IPv6 stuff for BGP and OSPF in a mixed environment after that.

You may need to downgrade your Proxmox version. There was a bug in version 7.1 (I am still running 7.0). Try installing it as a standalone VM on proxmox.
