One tip for the replacement of the side cover ... put a bit of spit on each lug that goes into the rubber grommets, this will stop the friction from pushing the grommet out the back and possibly losing it. Also, with all lithium batteries, make sure you have a lithium charger suited to your battery to avoid killing your battery - or worst case, setting it on fire.

Hi, I ended getting a Hybrid Battery (AGM/Li) from MotoBatt MHTX16. It has the best of both world. High CCA and Larger capacity (Higher than a Li and lower than a AGM). So far, so good. Its really good

I had one of those and it failed after a couple of weeks. The AGM was charging the Lithium ion which was draining into the bike. This replaced my MotoBatt. I hope you have better luck.

@@Geetarhed You're welcome. I've clocked up over 2K miles since installing the MHTX16 and, quite frankly - Excellent! I even did a test the other week. Starting at 100%, did 6 starts, one after the other. All fired up immediately. After, the battery charge was around 55%-60%. I even went further and started with 40% (still fired up immediately). I am impressed.

I had the Antigravity restart in my 690 Enduro and it was great. My BMW dealer warned against putting lithium in my 2018 GS. Said they create problems. Not sure how/why but he said most customers who install them have electrical problems as a result. This dealer has been particularly good over the years so I have no reason to doubt them. But I’m wondering if you found any gremlins after installing it and running it for a while.

Hi, no issues here except after 3 years, the battery didn't hold a charge as well and I replaced it. I was really hoping to get 5 years out of it but 3 is about what I get from BMW OEM AGM batteries so it does cost more but performance is on par.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the old battery. My new ktm 1290 SAS and the previous 2018 v strom 1000 had scottoiler e system, gps tracker and alarms. And the voltage will always be between 10 and 11 regardless if I had them on charge or not. On the strom, I had starting issues but it's probably because the halogen side lights and dipped beam consume more power. On the ktm, no issues.

Pretty good. lasted right at 3 years on one of my bikes which is about what AGM batteries from Yuza are lasting on these thirsty German bikes with modern electronics. Note, it lasted 3 years in that it would go dead after a few days but the ReStart technology has allowed me to keep that battery for a few more months because when it's dead, I just click the restart button and the bike fires right up. it's a pretty cool feature.

Hi Ron, I was just telling my friend yesterday about this battery since his bike needs a new one. It's been about 2 years and still zero issues. Have ridden far below freezing and it works fine. I have the same battery on my 701 Husky and that little RESTART button has saved my bacon a few times when I left a USB plugged in and killed the battery. No need for a battery jump start anymore. It's pretty nifty. I'm also about to buy one for our F750GS. Zero complaints.

Adam, I decided on the ATX12-HD with 480 CCA, bought on Antigravity store front on Amazon. It’s a direct drop-in replacement in the 1250 with no spacers needed. (The ATX12 is also a direct drop-in with no spacers, but with 360 CCA, which is still more than sufficient.) Started like a Honda…lol! I went all in and got the optional remote start and Bluetooth battery tracker too. Thanks again.

Excellent point and my only concern. It starts strong, doesn’t need to be ‘battery tended’ in the winter if I just unplug it from the bike and I have the back up “restart” button if I need it but the science is that Lithium Ion technology is about 25-40% weaker in the winter time. I ride in cold weather down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter (no joke) and I’m keeping my OEM battery on a battery tender just in case I have to go back to it in a pinch when this battery fails me. Time will tell.

Why a Lithium Battery for a heavy bike? A bit like a fat man wearing a tracksuit. Know they are lighter, but no other real advantage. A major disadvantage is cold weather cranking performance. Can understand for Sports bike where weight is all, but not for BMW tourer/adventure.

  • @AdamChandler86

There has been no disadvantage other than a higher up front cost. I did not buy this for weight savings but for the restart function that can save your bacon if the batter drains when you forget to unplug your heated gear.

When I ordered the bike, I wanted the Lightweight M battery but due to some European Union legislation they couldn't ship it to me.... so I was looking at the lithium battery from Wunderlich (Part No. 20970-200), here are some of the marketing facts about their battery: Highest safety standard thanks to LiFePO4 cell technology 12.8 volts 4 Ah 48 Wh Approximately 1/3 of the weight of comparable lead-acid batteries Can be installed in any position, because it contains no acid Uniform condition of all cells thanks to a “balancer” Unproblematic quick charging Small self-discharge Up to six times the lifespan of lead-acid batteries Quick, simple replacement No memory effect New: with charge status display Tip: Lithium batteries have to be "woken up" first at low external temperatures, e.g. the cells have to warm themselves up. To do this, just hold the starter button for a few seconds until the juice suddenly fires up ;-) I'm putting it on my wishlist for when my OEM battery decides to show signs of wear, I also have a bad habbit of just turning the engine off and the TFT and lights all stay on, just because of the delay of bluetooth and stuff, especially telephone contacts updating for 5 straight minutes sometimes, that's why I don't turn it completely off. I would also keep the engine on if not for the akrapovic noise it makes, difficult having a normal conversation :)
