Antigravity ReStart Lithium Ion Batteries Review
www.revzilla.com/search?_utf8...
A lithium battery that’s smart enough to prevent going flat? That’s the brilliance behind Antigravity’s new ReStart lithium ion batteries, which give you a second chance in the event of unwanted power drain. Antigravity’s proprietary circuitry cuts the power before the battery is depleted, saving your ride and your investment in a lithium-ion setup. Plus, you’ll shave weight and possibly space with the ReStart over lead-acid batteries.

Thanks for a great video. BUT, I will post my personal experience with Antigravity batteries (with re-start) YTX12-12 model for my 2009 Fatboy (softail). Soon after the install, (one week later) the bike wouldn't start, I checked the battery, had plenty or juice (13.3v bike off). After playing around a bit, I had to take it to a HD dealer for diagnosis. They found the TSSM (turn signal security system) had blown up. They replaced it and off I went ($750.00 Australia). I asked them what caused the issue, they didn't know. After receiving the bike back, I checked for codes (1/2 and hour ride after pick up from dealer). There was a P1006 and P1007 code, (over voltage to the system), which makes sense why the TSSM blew up in the first place (too much voltage and blew up a chip in the TSSM. I reset the codes and went on another 20 minutes ride, sure enough the codes are back. I was thinking the regulator, but again, i thought, lets change the battery back to the original one (Yuasa 320cca). went on a ride for 1 hour, no codes. Next day another ride, no codes. It's been one week and again, no codes. The problem with these batteries is that they are too powerful (at rest around 13.3v and when been charging 14.8v, but when you rev the engine, they go over 16v.) this is a very expensive lesson. Apart from the initial cost of the battery (over $400 Australia dollars) I also had a repair that the battery caused of $750 Au. dollars. MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THESE BATTERIES ARE A DISASTER AND I WORN ANYONE AGAINST BUYING THEM. I'm not your average bloke when it comes to bikes, I know what im doing and have diagnosed this problem properly, I used to build some of the badest prostreets and choppers Australia has seen. Do yourself a favour and steer well clear of Antigravity batteries. Grab yourself a Yuasa YUAM732HL (500 cca) and you will never look back or have anything blow up. Cheers, from Sydney, Australia.

Thanks for the detailed feedback Tim. I think you saved me from peril ... I was pretty close to ordering a SSB LH20L-BS battery ($466!) for my 103 Harley, and I read your post on KZread. Instead, I'll get a Deka ETX-20L (non-lithium) for $230. I think I'll wait a few years before I dive into the lithium battery thing. Based on the disaster you had, I can't afford to take gamble at the moment.

Hey Tim, thanks for posting this. Question: shouldn't the voltage regulator prevent this or no? I was looking into getting one of these myself for my FXDB. Had the engine bored to 110 and the bike is STRUGGLING to come to life with my YTX20L (12v 270 CCA). Definitely need a different battery but don't wanna blow anything like you're saying here.

@@oe3039 Hi, the regulator should take care of this and limit the amount of volts going to any electronics on the bike, but for whatever reason, this battery seemed to bypass the bikes electronics and send damaging volts spikes. Since I posted my comment, I still have not had an issue with a "normal" battery. If I were you, measure the size cavity of where your battery sits and get the biggest 'normal' battery(with the most cold cranking amps) you could fit. This way you should have all the starting power you need without running the risk of damaging (very expensive electronics). Also if you do some research, antigravity batteries do not last no where near as long as your normal batteries. In theory, antigravity batteries sound great, extremely light with shitload of c.c.a., but with my experience using it, I would steer well clear of them. Like I mentioned in my original post, i used to build custom choppers and prostreets, (and do all the wiring), so I'm not your average person. I have some electrical knowledge behind me.

Simple & ingenious. One question. One of the benefits of lithium ion batteries is that you can get a smaller battery than the stock lead and create more storage space on the bike. Why did he say "make sure you match up your group size with the one in your bike at the present time"???

I live in Minnesota. My questions are as follows. Do you mean to say that I can just let it be in my un insulated garage in the winter without any battery tender hooked and hit the restart button next summer? If not, what exact tender needs to be hooked to it to maintain the voltage level? What is the life expectancy on an average if the cycle keeps repeating since obviously nothing lasts forever?

I leave my bike in NH no trickle charger with one of these. Haven’t even needed to press the button they have started up after the winter every time. They may need to “warm up” as all lithium ion do. Try to start it you will get a click. With 10 seconds and get a few cranks, another 10 seconds start right up.

Does the internal bms limit charging current rate based on (cold) temperature? These lifepo4 batteries can discharge at cold temperatures, but near freezing temps they can be damaged by too much charge current. Already understand methods of warming w/load and external heat devices.

This is my next battery, I will never buy another Shorai battery ever again. I spent the $$ on a Shorai battery tender, hooked it up. Came back in the spring and found a dead battery. Either the Shorai tender is faulty (doesn't appear to be the case), or too stupid to properly keep the battery charged (maybe you're supposed to bush a button after home power loss, or something). I can't think of a scenario where someone would want to attach the battery tender, and NOT want to keep their battery charged, especially when the primary purpose of the tender (other than charging itself) is to...tend to the battery charge state over periods of non-use. Which leads me to the Shorai battery itself. The battery is also too stupid to keep itself from being over-discharged. The 18650 batteries in my flashlight are smart enough to protect themselves from over-discharging, but not a $160 Shorai. I used to love the Shorai battery because of the weight savings in a sport bike, no I realize how cheap and lazy of a company they are, notably in comparison to their competitors (EarthX is another, btw).

OK, been almost 2 years and no key fob. This battery is nearly useless without the remote for many of us. I'd have been perfectly happy with just a wired remote that I could install somewhere accessible on the bike. In fact, it can't be jumped or push started without hitting that stupid button buried under my hard mounted seat. It's actually HARDER to "re-start" a bike with this battery. I guess if you were out in the woods this would be a good feature to have; if it worked, which in my experience, it does not.

Purchased two AG-ATX12-16L Antigravity batteries for 2 classic cars. These NEVER worked satisfactorily from the time of installation. After very carefully ensuring that every aspect of the installations was correct I have determined that these batteries do not perform anything at like their advertised ratings. In fact, new out of the box and connected directly to a starting load these reputedly 480 cranking amp batteries would deliver a maximum of 210 amps with the voltage at the terminals having dropped to under 8.5 volts (1785 Watts). A new 540 CCA lead acid battery tested in the same way delivered 185 amps with the terminal voltage dropping to 11.12 volts (2057 Watts). A call to tech support provided no assistance, as in "tough luck buddy, we have your money". DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED.
