Thanks so much for making this video! Just did this upgrade to my wife’s new-to-her 2019 RF Grand Touring and it was a huge help. There were a couple of additional wiring harness connections on hers (the power top switch, temp sensor for the automatic climate control, etc.), but the process was the same. She’s up & running with wireless Apple CarPlay now. Thanks again! 👍

I just went through this all last night but with the newer module "wireless". TK78-66-9UOC The written directions say nothing about wireless Carplay but the unit is advertised as such and will not work with wired. On Amazon it says to turn off Mazda Bluetooth so as not to interfere. So, iPhone shows it, and then shows me the pairing number but no pairing number ever shows on head unit. I cannot get it to work because of lack of pairing.

Info on the purple shifter knob please.

Step one, any time you remove any part of the interior that covers or interacts with an air bag, is to disconnect the battery!

They are not that fragile. People disconnect battery for all sorts of stuff to be "safe" when most of the time all that is needed is to be carefull and keep the ignition off or whatever off you are working on. One problem with disconecting the battery is if the epu has to go all the way through a new drive cycle before it runs right again...heaven help you if you need to get your smogged anytime soon

Great video, I’ve installed and have CarPlay working. Unfortunately i experience reliability issues where CarPlay will cut out randomly. Disconnecting and reconnecting the cable will make it work temporarily before it cuts out again 😢

@@alexfryproductions across the industry head unit “resetting” “glitching” “cutting out” or just complete failure are of the most common concerns. Often times software updates help but ultimately most cars would benefit from a new head unit if issues persist even after updating software. Also make sure your phone is backed up and up to date and make sure your storage isn’t full on your phone it can cause issues with data transfer.

It just amazes and pisses me how Mazda enineered all this crap so you have to take EVERYTHING apart lol I mean CERTAINLY that was not neccessay! Its like it is all interlocked but mostly for no good reason if you ask me! Older cars maybe 4 screws and you have access to everything....I would SO pay a stereo shop flunky $100 to do all this for me! Especially as I want back up camera added too which involves a lot of the same access

does the touchscreen work with carplay while driving?

Hilarious that my 2017 Mazda 2 economy crap vehicle has Android Auto by default but somehow, someway, the 2018 Miata I have doesn't. Why Mazda.... why..
