Insta 360 with Instamic wireless microphone. Moto-vlog.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I’ve recently bought an Insta 360 x3 and want to use it as a single camera for moto-vlogging. But I don’t want to helmet mount it and wire it to a mic in my helmet. Mostly because you then can’t use the 360 camera mode - which seems to me to defeat the object.
Most wireless mic systems have a mic/transmitter which you fit in your helmet but also a receiver which you plug in to the camera - so you would need the mic adapter for the Insta360 x3 - and the camera then isn’t waterproof. You’ve also now got the reciever, adapter, a mounting bracket and a wire stuck on the outside of the camera which on a motorcycle doesn’t really appeal either.
‪@WhatsUpBob‬ made a video about Instamic which is exactly what I was looking for.
• Insta360 One R to Inst...
Instamic is a tiny self contaned mic which you can put in your helmet and it connects to the camera by Bluetooth.
Thanks What’s Up Bob👍
I picked one up on eBay and it syncs easily with the Insta 360 using the AirPod connectivity.
There’s an app too for Instamic so you can change the settings on the mic. I’ve dropped the gain down to -15 Db because it’s inside my helmet. You need to disconnect the Instamic from your phone to be able to connect it with the camera.
This video was the first time I’d used the Instamic with the Insta360 x3. So I could probably fiddle about with the settings to improve the audio further. But I was really impressed by how easy it is to use and I thought the audio was pretty good.
With the Instamic you can mount your camera anywhere on the bike and record voice audio from your helmet directly as part of the video track without having to attach anything else to your camera.

No more bloody mic cables trough into helmets, no problem for motovlog under the rain anymore😅 it’s a great solution!! Only one problem they need to solve, when we turn the camera and insta mic on it should connect automatically, when we command to mic (turn the camera off after the vlog) both should turned off and we don’t need to touch anything!!!! I was looking youtube videos to get wireless mic for my insta 360 one RS and find couple of videos than I saw your video! Finally I found my wireless mic thanks bro 😎

Glad it’s working for you. I did a ride in heavy rain yesterday and it was great to know this set up is water proof. I’ve lost count of how many times my GoPro and external mic have shut down in the rain. I know what you mean about not automatically connecting - that would make life easier. In a long ride I run a cable from a power bank in my jacket to the Instamic and leave it on constantly and have the camera on standby using voice commands - this works pretty well. 👍

@@spodokomoto5020 No worries. There are two things to be aware of: 1. Mic and remote can't be operated simultaneously. 2. If contact is lost between the Instamic and the Insta360 during recording, the recording stops. (That happens if either camera or mic are submerged. The conditions are probably not too benign out there if you have fallen. Reconnecting risks loosing mic or cam in the water while out, especially if they are separate like at the helmet and mast for example. It's never ideal, is it?)

Thanks for sharing mate, probably my favourite solution I’ve seen so far. Having to have an adapter and then a receiver hanging off the side of the camera is probably it’s biggest weakness but this solves it. I couldn’t find an alternative one piece Bluetooth mic - it seems a simple thing but no one else seems to make one. Obviously AirPods themselves have a mic and might work to record audio. I don’t have these but do have some Sony ear buds which did connect with the Insta 360 3x and the mic picked up audio as part of the video track but the quality was very poor - I think the gain was too much in a confined space - I don’t think you can adjust this on the ear buds - but could be wrong. The other problem was that they were, more often than not, dislodged when I put on my helmet. If you’ve got AirPods it would be interesting to know if that works.

I think dropping the mic gain on the Instamic using the app is the way to go. I don’t think the camera external mic gain makes a difference - as it happens I have this set to +6 Db but that’s for when I’m using an external mic with the adapter. So I think this is a red herring. One obvious point is to use a wind muff/ dead cat - the specific Instamic ones are pricey but anything with elastic or a draw string will do - it only needs to go over the end. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the video. Really helpful. Questions - 1. Is the Instamic waterproof/water resistant? If I am motovlogging in rain, how much precaution should I take? 2. Other videos I watched said that we need to connect the instamic everytime we power on the camera. But as you know, we never power off the camera. So hit the record button. Would the mic be connected all the time if I’m just playing with the record button? 3. How long does the battery last on the instamic (if it is connected all the time to the camera but used only when we hit the record button)

  • @spodokomoto5020

    @spodokomoto5020

    11 ай бұрын

    1. The Instamic is water proof - so no worries there. It’ll be in your helmet too - so hopefully not too wet! 2. You pair the Instamic with the camera at the start of the ride and leave it on for the duration. If the camera is on stand by then whenever you start to record the Instamic will record the audio direct to the video track. If you turn the camera fully off/take the battery out - you’ll need to re-pair the Instamic. 3. The Instamic is on continually even when your not recording video. So the battery life is 3 - 3.5 hrs. You can extend this by connecting a power bank to your Instamic. It’ll still record when charging. I posted a second video about this and how you can use Instamic to operate the camera with voice commands. 👍

Sorry to hear that. A couple of thoughts. If you’ve downloaded the Instamic app on your phone make sure that your phone is not still connected to the mic - the Instamic will only pair with one device at a time. Secondly try to pair the x3 with something else e.g. AirPods or another pair of Bluetooth headphones. At least this will tell you whether the fault is with the camera or the mic.

If you turn your camera on to start recording, does the mic connect automatically each time? Or do you need to fumble and press buttons/settings on both devices each time the camera is turned on? Likewise when the camera is off and you use the quick record button, does it connect? There's Stereo and Mono - did you choose either? Thank you

@@TheReelIsle The Instamic will last 3-3.5 hrs - I don’t know how long the X3 will go on standby. It’s true, you can’t use the GPS remote and the Instamic at the same time. However, you can control the camera remotely using voice commands through Instamic, this works well. But no GPS data. Everything is a compromise! I looked at the Rode Wireless Mic set up. The difficulty is that as well as a transmitter in your helmet you also need to attach a receiver to the outside of your camera as well as the mic adapter, a cold shoe and a wire. Your camera is also now not waterproof. This didn’t seem like a good option to me. I guess you need to find what works best in your specific case. 👍

I couldn’t say I don’t have the DJI 2. It’s hugely expensive though so I would hope it’s better! But like many wireless mics it requires a transmitter in your helmet and a receiver on the outside of the camera plus a mic adapter, cold shoe and a wire and your camera isn’t waterproof anymore. This is not good if you’re recording on a motorbike. The Instamic is one piece, self contained, waterproof and doesn’t require anything attached to your camera and so that remains waterproof too. This is the point of the film rather than which mic is better.

You would like you to move around/extend-zoom in or out/change point of view - key frame your Insta more often! It is boring (for me) just to see your face wearing a helmet. (kzread.info/dash/bejne/lG1rksVyo5PghZM.html) here is an example for a little bit of variety with the same mounting point for the cam. Viewers of you channel would be able to see way more of those beautiful landscapes that you are riding by. Just saying... It's all good advise with Instamic but you can actually use any mic since we can't see your mouth, there is no sync problem?! DJI Mic Wireless Microphone System is probably the one I will invest in. Hi, I am a biker like you and I understand realising when the mic and camera works together😂 but I have some questions. Amazing video as I’ve been searching for this for a long time. -Could you give the command via the Instamic to the X3 to start recording like as well to stop recording?. Basically every summer I go for 40 days for the last 24 years around Europe and i do record my trips… meaning as I am riding along I am not recording, but when I see something interesting i wish to record and describe what I am looking at BUT without having to stop and set up Bluetooth in between the camera and the mic. In order for this to happen. I need to send the command via Instamic to the X3. Will it happen? -how long the Instamic will last in the standby mode and recording, when is necessary …until runs out of battery? How long it takes to be charged again? And any downfalls? Safe riders

I’m certainly no expert having made only one film with the Instamic! But, yes I think you can use voice commands for the Insta 360 through an Instamic. If you search there are a few videos of people doing this. The battery life is between 3 and 3.5 hrs. This might not be enough for you. However if you look through the FAQs on the Instamic website they say you can boost the battery life by connecting a power bank. So if you’re happy to have a power bank in your jacket pocket and run a mini usb wire into your helmet then you could have the mic switched on for much longer than 3hrs.

Also if you connect a power bank to the Instamic it’s fully functional and so you will be able control the camera and record audio for long rides. @@r12rtpilot Two reasons really. 1. You do have to reconnect the mic and the camera if you turn either off - or take the battery out of the camera or wander off with the mic in your helmet out of range. You don’t need to re-pair it though. 2. By having the camera in ‘stand by’ and the Instamic ‘on’ you can turn recording off and on using voice commands. I think this makes you more discerning in what you record which saves memory too. With my set-up memory card capacity is now the limiting factor not battery life on either camera or Instamic.
