Absolutely, and they've been largely responsible for the popularity of the genre. Here in Oz, we've got Be'lakor, Ne Obliviscaris and others who clearly owe some of their inspiration to Insomnium. I have very little interest in hardcore black and death metal - particularly when it strays into grindcore - but MDM is great.

Dark Tranquillity is the greatest melodeath band, Insomnium is near them

Insomnium is a band that is a goldmine of glorious metal songs. Love this band, they are one of the few that can take me on an emotional rollercoaster, true musicians!

I love Insomnium, and this is my all time favorite song. Words can't describe it. Glad you liked it!

for sure. I remember when I first saw them in Summer 2015, really good concert. When they played "The Promethean Song", I almost cried and what got me emotionally was when I turned around and saw the big amount of people that had come to see them. They play with passion big time

Both are Finnish bands. We are lucky to have this kind of talented bands, but sadly both are terribly underrated by radio stations and a lot of people. But both tour big in Japan, America and Europe

Their whole discography is awesome. Not one bad album out of the whole thing.

Hell yes. It excites me to see people react so positively to Insomnium. They are one of the best bands around and are still severely underrated. This band helped save my life and I'll be seeing them tuesday after so many years. I hope you enjoy all their other albums. Check out their recent album called Winter's Gate. It's a 40 minute song.

When I first heard this song, it almost brought tears to my eyes. Everything I look for in a song it had and it made me so damn happy.

Check out Be'Lakor - Abeyance. An amazing melodic death metal band, one of the best at the moment.

Id wish Insomnium would get more recognition. One of the best music out there, literally. We need more of this.

I discovered them a few months ago (so many bands, so little time!) This was their first song I heard and my reaction was exactly the same as yours. Got me hooked up in the first 30 seconds. The changes, the growling-not growling vocals, the guitar behind the voice...man, I see you watch this and remember exactly my first time with them. I don't like to "label" every single band style, for me, it's all metal. I may like it or not, and that's it. Thanks for bringing me back to sucha an awesome discovery moment. Thumbs up for you too ;D

I felt the same way seeing this band/video for the first time last year. It was my first time hearing this band as well and I was blown away too. I'm a big fan of their guitarist Markus Vanhala and I've even seen his band Omnium Gatherum live since then.

Came over this band about four or five years ago, and been absolutely in loved with it since. Few "new" bands can grip you like this. Not only does the sound, vocal ranges and melody absolutely kick ass but their lyrics is on point and really gives a whole lot of meaning, at least in relation to my life. None the less, sub for you!

It's melodeath in its finest mate. Try some Be'lakor too.

Would definitely recommend listening to the song "Primeval dark" immediately followed by this song. It's like a preface to this one. Now there's a f*cking epic way to start an album!

They are a special band, the lyrics and prose are stunning storytelling, the album's are amazing stories. Their record Winter's Gate is one of the most important metal records ever IMO. Check it out on Spotify if you're not hip.

Iv been listening to those guys for 4 years now, every time I hear their song i discover something new, something else catches my attention, the melancholy, the dread, the anger and in the same time peace, hope and tranqulity... I just love it, it is also one of the most underrated bands out there, I mean doing one track 40 minutes long split into chapters like a book? Its almost poetic... I fucking love Insomnium and i dont even like growl all that much.

One of my favorite bands ever. I have been lucky enough to see them twice in Finland at Tuska 2014 and Tampere Metal Meeting 2016. I have also seen them in Seattle back in 2015, and I will be seeing them in June 2018. Their latest album, Winter's Gate, is a concept record. It is amazing.

I've discovered a whole new world of metal and music because of your channel, and I'm an old guy(36) thanks dude!!!

so your 37 now, im 35 and been listening this band since they started, well i am from Finland but, still. The whole melodic death metal genre is so full of good bands like Noumena(less known but fkn rocks, my fav) Omnium Gatherium, Be´Lakor and such on... So you have entered the whole new zone(maybe listened some of it already) of metal to enjoy and jiz your undies/pants. What i wanted to say the most before this jibjab was, welcome to Finland my man :)

The fact that you liked this song so much and made that comment about the Guitar sounding like backup vocals makes me think you'd enjoy Bloodshot Dawn, check their song Vision if you can (nice place to start) cheers!

This was the first song I listen from Insomnium and I just love them. And I listen to it almost every day.

When you said "so cool" at 3:26, I always expect the reactors to like that part. Glad you did lol

You can also check : Eternal Tears Of Sorrow (Sounds pretty Melo Death Metal, eh?) with the song : Swan Saivo(my favorite).

His growls in this song in particular are just phenomenal. So gutteral and gripping. It's what got me into Insomnium \m/

For years I thought I would not find a band I loved as much as Amon Amarth and here is Insomnium perhaps my new favorite band. BTW I wish you would check out some of the older Amon Amarth Odin on our Side album was amazing.

Especially since this song along (the album of the year 2014 for me) with the live performance (also 2014) got me into this band - and now I've seen them three times. I recommend you "One For Sorrow" =) And the band is melo-death, not black metal. But you got yourself a new subscriber!

This has been my favourite song since 2014 when Shadows of the Dying Sun album came out. I liked seeing you enjoying this song. Music is awesome and also the lyrics are very fucking meaningful.

I remember hearing these guys a LOOOONG time ago when they released their first album. They did a spot on it on Black Metal radio. I'm actually surprised they have stuck around this long and went the direction they did. A great band indeed.

Whenever I listen to insomnium and ominium gatherum I feel like I'm flying over woods on a mountain and it's super cloudy with a light drizzle... I've been listening to insomnium since school. They've never let me down ❤ their first three albums were my fav until the new stuff came 😜

Theres many metal genres now. Most would call this melodic death. Glad to hear you like Korpiklaani. They are friggin wild and love the accordion. If you like both these bands, I highly recommend: Aether Realm's newest album for a review. Redneck Vikings from Hell. the song TMHC and Cycle are killer good !

if you run through all their albums, or ready for other similar bands,.... Be'lakor and Omnium Gatherum. those 3 bands share a lot of similarities. not just stylewise, but qualitywise. and the _omnium_ bands even share a guitarist as of Insomniums recent albums.

Mr. Criminal, I know it's been a few years, but I HIGHLY recommend you give their new album a video or two. "valediction" and "pale morning star" are both excellent tracks, that are a significant improvement over the sound they developed for this song.

Of course they are from Finland. I knew from the first few notes. Reminds me a lot of old school death metal from Finland but with some clean vocals and modern sections blended in.

An absolute MUST to check out is "Mechina - Anagenesis" or "Mechina - Planetfall"...that is, is you haven't done so already. No music videos for them yet but they still are fffff'ing worth it.

Insomnium is one of my favorite bands.

Another amazing couple tracks from Insomnium are Inertia and Through the Shadows. You have to listen to them in that order because they transition from one to the other and elements from Inertia in the melody of Through the Shadows. It’s fucking badass! I highly recommend it
