One of my favorite Insomnium songs! Back in the day, after a good night of drinking I took our dog out without any sleep and played this album and song in headphones and wondered in the nearby woods was such an experience, almost spiritual.
Lots of nordic melodic death metal bands have cool guitar melodies, the pirate thing, and memorable melody in general. Kalmah, Children pf Bodom, Amon Amarth, In Flames, etc.
This is my favourite Insomnium album. I can listen to it everyday. It's been my constant companion since school. The emotional intensity in it, keeps bringing me back to it again and again. Whenever I have a difficult day, I can just put on some Insomnium, have a good cry and get on with my life. Thank you, Geebs, for this reaction. I'm sure many people like me will find their solace in metal❤

I love the part where you discussed about the old studio vibe and the tones ringing out. The album was released in 2006. I think that's why the older Insomnium albums feel much more raw and are a bit closer to my heart. I am not very familiar with technical things and I am purely a listener so I enjoy it when you discuss details like this. I hope your cough gets better!

This album 10 yrs ago blew me away. It is deep to the soul, keep it near and dear. Life can and will get tough. Insomnium will right the ship

Omnium is more fun live. Insomnium is more a studio band.
I remember finding these guys on Balck Metal radio in like 2005. Instantly loved this band.
Great song, and a great album by a terrific melodic metal band!
I’m always down for some death metal reactions. Some old In Flames would be cool to see on the channel.

I'm gonna see them live this fall. Me and my 10 yo son are going to see Amon Amarth and Insomnium is support band. 🤩
Great band. Insomnium and Amophis are like twins with different personalities

Amorphis is amazing. So many great albums with so many different sounds.
Insomnium are fantastic. Best melodeath metal band around nowadays. Highly recommend the album Shadows of the Dying Sun

i also like ghost brigade. they sadly disbanded but i heard them first and insomnium gave me always similar vibes.
Amazing band and this is one of my favorite songs from them!
Such a good song from a great band. Insomnium along with be’lakor are the cream of the crop in melodeath and have been for years. This whole record is just stellar, their winters gate album which is one continuous song the whole album is amazing too
Going to see them live next month with Wilderun and Omnium Gatherum, have seen them live before and they were great.
Insomnium is (ironically) one of the most slept-on bands in metal
Defeated Sanity is also worth looking into. Keep up the good work
Oh my god you actually covered Insomnium too. It's insane to me to see a legit composer delve into this stuff. This song might not be most interesting to you, especially without the lyrics, but there are other songs that have quite an interesting dynamic that you might find more entertaining to analyze. Songs like In the Grooves of Death - a conversation between a father and a son with amazing lyrics, then Last Statement or even Bereavement. These songs have a lot going on and especially in the lyrics department which is a really strong point for Insomnium (definitely not slam poetry type of stuff)
The next from insomnium (if you haven't already) Godforsaken kzread.info/dash/bejne/nHyCl9qIfqjQg6Q.htmlsi=wAVTJkmPJ49APyjs Absolute beauty in metal It's about the witch hunt in anno 1696 (More context /story if you do it and want)
Geebz you seem such a cool person, love your reactions every time, love Insomnium!
Saw them nearly a decade ago in Seattle. Was an amazing performance!
This is hands down an album worth a straight through listen. Maybe 10 times lol. Above the Weeping World is a Gem
The melodic guitar/keyboard line on top of growled vocals is a hallmark of melodic death metal, we up here in Finland (and our Scandinavian brothers) are the experts on that genre going back three decades and then some! Bands like Children of Bodom, Norther, Amorphis and Wintersun have all carried that flag on in their variety of ways. If you're interested in hearing some very pirate-esque metal, I heartily recommend the album Olden Tales & Deathly Trails by Wilderun. It's not quite straightforward "pirate metal" like Alestorm for example, but has a lot of those elements you were talking about knitted into progressive metal. The song Storm Along could very well be a straight up sea shanty!
you should do "aethra" by Gorod next
One of my favorite channels out of Hawaii.
Thank you Geebz
Forlorn son and drawn to black are excellent tracks on this album
Insomnium are so good! Love it!

Well this was unexpected
You should just listen to some good ol, At the Gates.
ALOHA! Could you please react to the Heroes of Might and Magic 4 OST please? It's my favorite soundtrack of any video game (series). I would be very grateful to hear your opinion on that, as I really appreciate your professionalism in making high quality reactions to music. :) Greetings, Ballista.
Any Insomnium is better than no Insomnium but I would have definitely chosen something different. I was one of the people badgering you to do one of their songs, check out "Stained in Red" if you want a newer song with modern production.

This is a top top tier insomnium song off maybe their best album so I think this was a good choice.
React to "Eyes Wide Open" by Kittie. It's their new song after being on a 13 year hiatus.
