Karabakh was an autonomous oblast with self- governance majority Armenian population! Azerbaijan started the first war where civilians on both sides were driven out. What I don't understand is that you say a 90-year-old woman died. In 1993, 750,000 Azerbaijanis were beaten to death by the Armenians. 30,000 people were subjected to genocide. One of them was a civilian. Azerbaijan neither killed nor told them to leave. These are the differences between Turks and Armenians.

As someone who has followed this conflict for a while, this whole story is a load of horse manure. Where in all of this is Armenia and the West going to take responsibility for this humanitarian crisis? Yes, this was one of those ASSRs the Soviets created, but it was entirely surrounded by another sovereign nation. Rather than accepting that, and negotiating for cultural protections and limited authority, Armenia tried to pull a squatter's rights move on their neighbor - and it backfired. For those of us who were adults in the 90's, and remember when Armenia was the one committing genocide against the Azeris, this is even more ridiculous. I hate it for these people, and I hope the West sends aid to help them resettle, but the solution to this problem should have happened over 30 years ago with those people accepting that they were in Azerbaijan and becoming citizens or resettling on their own then. To create a separatist republic entirely contained in another country, and then complain when that country gets tired of it, is a farce. I'm also deeply unamused by the use of the word genocide here. What happened in Rwanda was a genocide. What happened in Nazi Germany was a genocide. In all seriousness, what happened in that valley in the 90's could be described as a genocide. This wasn't even an ethnic cleansing in the traditional sense of the word. This was a mass voluntary self-deportation due to their not want wishing to become citizens of Azerbaijan. Were they afraid? Sure. Because they probably remember what they did to their Azeri neighbors in the 90s and didn't want to risk the shoe being on the other foot. However, in not a single picture or video have we seen troops forcing anyone to leave. On the contrary, by the refugee's own accounts, the Armenian officials in the area were telling people to leave. I am no fan of Azerbaijan or their government, but seriously folks. This is the time to get both sides to sit down and have serious peace talks that respect both side's borders, rather than continue stoking the animosity. That region doesn't need more guns or hate, they need genuine diplomacy, and diplomacy brokered by regional powers, not Europe, Russia, or the US.

The Armenian genocide preceded the Jewish Holocaust which was later followed by the Cambodian Genocide; arguably the 3 most brutal ones in the 20th century in terms of their scope and systematic nature (tattooing/giving ID numbers on victims, burning literature, looting property, forcibly assimilating children, etc.).

1:20 Wow, such audacity saying those words when you got to leave with your belongings and in a vehicle. The Azeris in the 90s didn't have that luxury, and was forced to leave their homes in the winter on foot and with only what they could carry with their hands while Armenians pointed guns at them. Azerbaijan didn't even wanted to hurt any Armenians living there, even offering citizenship and protection. They only wanted their land back.

Karabakh was an autonomous oblast with self- governance majority Armenian population! Azerbaijan started the first war where civilians on both sides were driven out. Over 400K Armenians were expelled from Azerbaijan between 1988-1992 and many brutally murdered in Sumgait, Maraga, Kirovabad, and Baku! But of course Azerbaijan hides this narrative and demonizes the Armenians!

Where were you when over a million Azerbaijani people massacred, tortured and forced to flee their homes in Karabakh in 1990s. People suffered a lot in cold winter and many other difficulties. Azerbaijan showed mercy and government announced Armenian stay in Karabakh region of Azerbaijan but they leave by their own will. That’s difference between Azerbaijani people and Armenian. Search Khojaly genocide, search Azerbaijani refugees, they had to run with no dress, bare foot in cold winter to escape genocide. Separatism and occupation is over. Peace and prosperity will come to the Karabakh by it’s true owners. You’re welcome back to live under Azerbaijani laws as a good citizen.
