Inside the Classroom: Contracts With Professor George Geis
UVA Law professor George Geis discusses issues surrounding offers and acceptance in contract law with his 1L Contracts class. Taking place early in students’ first semester at law school, this session examined questions surrounding what exactly constitutes an offer of a contract, and what constitutes an acceptance of that offer. Geis illustrated these concepts using historical examples of advertising offers. (University of Virginia School of Law, March 2, 2020)

Who's watching in 2024? I love law. Verbal skills are awesome. Thank you, Professor and University of Virginia for this wonderful video. 😊
I could listen to this guy all day . I’m an aspiring law school student. I hope most of the professors are like this.
This makes me want to go to law school.

Tbh from me as a law student, I’m so thankful for some sort of channel like this, it’s like an opportunity to experience in the class of laws from the top uni, this is also helpful to learn english for lawyer at the same time!
This guy does the Themis videos and literally helped teach me contracts. He’s fantastic.
I would be happy if this was my prof.
He’s a really great professor. He gets the point across while being charismatic and retaining engagement.

If my cousin was a lawyer I'd be sooooo happy
Yes, with the ebay, offers you would be inviting people to offer. I had this happen in Real Estate last week put in an offer and returned with a multiple offer response.
thank you for sharing these videos with the world. i enjoy the concept of law school, but would not go. i would love to audit classes just for the enjoyment of learning. i would even take these classes if you offered to non law school students just to expand my mind. please share more classes
Prof Geis's contract courses in Themis really helped me survive the contract,
This is great, thank you so much!👍
In the 1st advertisement, it could be contended that the value was specific enough to expect at least a coat worth the value of the cheapest coat, "to $100" in the store on the date of the offer.
Excellent class. Coming from a country with a tradition of Roman Law ("Civil Law"), it helped me a lot to understand the approach to contracts in other legal systems. Thanks for sharing.
Need all the lectures on this topic...🙌 . upload it as soon as possible
This was extremely interesting. This professor is truly great.
Prof Geis is a brilliant professor. I wished he would have dived a little deeper into consideration. Contract formation comprise of offer, acceptance, and consideration. If these are met, then a binding valid K exist between the parties. Of course there are performance issues, breach, and discharge/remedies associated with contracts as well.
Makes such good sense. I have to take a class here.
Can't say about US, but in Europe Uber drivers enter into the contract with the passenger after the passenger gets into the car and the driver starts the engine. And actually, some drivers like to trick the rule: may keep the car engine off, first ask 'where are you going?' and then accept or refuse to drive you based on your answer.
I really like this Professor
I enjoyed the lecture. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏾
This had me engaged the whole way through!

This is great, thank you so much❤️
Great teaching. Thanks
I’d never consider law school but learning about it seems interesting
I enjoyed this!!
Crystal Clear
wish I would have had Professors like this!
I think a short answer to all their "what ifs" is that companies have policies in place. With all their examples, stores, uber, etc etc the language is important and they put clauses in to protect the employee, the consumer, etc. So that's why it's so important to make sure everything is specified. For example, with the uber driver they have clauses/policies and inform the consumer if they cannot find you after X time they have the right to cancel, just things like that...companies can put legal policies in place to address all the different cases to avoid any law suits
He's awesome!
What if he was buying the item for his mother Mary?
With the Uber debat..... They all missed the fact that you are already in a contract through the acceptance of the apps contract terms.
If only my professors were like him ☹️
Can anyone tell me please : the name of the book and the name of polisher that he is using at this class?
This dude is cool, my 1L was cool as well, but good times.
I really like the student's contribution starting at 22:28, I really like organic or prepared knowledge. Who is like neutral toned like the gifted one lol
My cousin!
I think the island was a tax scheme being that someone got to purchase an island and write it off as an office expense.
Civilian ownership of military aircraft has stipulations which may preclude civilian ownership. FAA also has standards tests for ownership of any aircraft but does not necessarily preclude ownership, for instance, if the buyer has no pilot certificates. The FAA has concerns for safe equipment, operations, safe and qualified pilots. FAA certifies aircraft for air worthiness. An aircraft may be air worthy but don't get caught flying an aircraft you are not qualified to fly. What this means is, FAA can ground your aircraft indefinitely such that, you will need to truck it to where ever it needs to be for making it air worthy. In turn, this means the cost of ownership can be very expensive. Is it worth owning? 😢
If I compare the Understanding and engagement in this class and the one I attended for my LLB I feel like asking for a refund.
12:20 consumer protection "problems"
