lots of people miss the point the engine is still all australian made and engineered and developed by australian experts like Pete Murray whom ive said for years is the best induction porter in this country.. The ford cleveland and windsor are all american engines, the holden v8 was all australian and this is version 2 by australians yeh na yeh fark yeh.

BINGO! Other smallblocks have had zillions of dollars & gazzillions of hours pumped into them over the decades. Now we get to see what a tiny fraction of that development can produce in our humble local product. Give this tiny trend another year or so & we'll be seeing a Thousand HorsePower at the flywheel of a carbied Holden. The crate lovers will certainly lurve that.

@@jonsimmons4150 No, the fairies are your friends, not mine. As mentioned in the soundtrack... This little carbied Holden donk is to be bolted into a fairly well sorted LX Hatchback. It only has to cope with 1/4 mile runs at full noise & hopefully, it'll hang together. If the car can cope with the engine & transmit whatever the engine produces, we should see some records tumble. You can have your overcomplicated, predeveloped exoticar tinpot junk. Modern engines designed with multiple cams, computerised fool injection & all sorts of other you beaut technological variable fiddlyarse trinkety crap are usually fully developed before they hit the road & any comic book wanker can insert a hotrod chip to make them go fast. The first generation Holden V8 was tuned to produce a lowly & safe 240 BHP. Bathurst history records that given a particular set of prevailing rules, the Holden V8 could outrun & outlast every other commercially available mass produced engine on Earth in a race environment. Stick a Holden V8 in a fair fight & it's likely to tear all comers to shreds as has been demonstrated many times. You've mentioned your experiences with other junk elsewhere in these comments & you still cannot understand how underdeveloped the Holden V8 always was. Well, Someone has finally tossed some serious development at a Holden V8 & it only has to survive 1/4 mile runs. Go get your bigtime megabuck quadcam V12 & see how far you get against a humble little Holden now that one has finally recieved the love she needed. No one bothers to run fruity V12s in drag racing because such junk breaks in an instant the minute you ask it to do any real work. Enjoy your chintz & your fairy friends with their overcomplicated & unreliable expensive toys. The Holden is a faithful & affordable product that delivers the goods with a minimum of stupidity.

Larry Perkins altered the factory holden moulds to produce engine blocks and cylinder heads that were virtually indestructible. The standard casting was rubbish in comparison.

Wow, what an engine. This thing is pretty high end. Very impressive, great team involved and the end result proves to be well worth all the collaboration, hard work and money. I could.only imagine what this this cost to put together, but I don't think you'd get much change out of $40,000 - $50,000 for the package including accessories, ignition, carb and pipes

I know the car well you are referring too and I don’t think you are comparing apples with apples to what this engine is going into. It’s easier to have a light car, full blown rear ends and tube front ends than what it is to have a shock and spring set up in a untubbed and uncut car. You are correct that is an impressive car but if you are hanging your hat on the 8 second pass in a car of that set up and calibre then you are not looking at it correctly.

And the Holden 5 litre injected engine is were GM got the intake and port location design for your bread and butter LS , Aussies had the LS intake design in 1988, my mate Jeff Dellow of Dellow Bell housings once said to me years ago " I'm sick to death of seeing Chev motors in everything, do something different , there are hundreds of grate designs in V8 motors " he looked around his shop at Revesby in Sydney and pointed to a motor , he said " look that's a Oldsmobile Small Block 403 ci (6.7 litre) , almost bolts straight in a Holden , do something different, don't be a sheep be a Shepard !" I put a 403 Oldsmobile Small block with a cut down 425 Olds big block crank and 455 big block heads in the 403 ( now a 520ci Small block ) behind a Turbo 200 4r over drive trans in a HQ Holden one tonner, bolted in on Holden mounts and Holden tailshaft slid straight in to 200 4r no cutting, the moral is I have a fast low cost 8.4 litre people love to look at , not the old " pop the bonnet , oh it's a LS , next car please !"

I would've expected horsepower and torque numbers closer together out of a naturally aspirated engine. Impressive horsepower numbers even if torque isn't ideal. Reminds me a bit of a Honda the way it revs and makes power way out in the rev range.

@Fullboost no, just those that don't use 'anything' from the factory. Most hotted up engines will still have the factory block, heads, and crank.
