Inside The $1 Million Pipistrel Panthera

Inside The $1 Million Pipistrel Panthera Plane
0:00 - Intro
The need for long-distance travel that is speedy and efficient has never been greater. But who wants to be trapped at a large airport, passing through long lines of security checks to catch a plane to their destination? The answer is Pipistrel Panthera. Consider a speedy yet inexpensive plane that can take you and your friends, coworkers, or business partners wherever you want, whenever you want. Pipistrel Panthera is such plane. Here is everything you need to know about the Pipistrel Panthera. Stay with us till the end of the video to learn more about this incredible aircraft.
1:10 - Interior
The state-of-the-art ergonomic cabin is a prominent design feature of Panthera. All of the features are designed to provide improved comfort and usability for persons of all sizes. Three huge gull-wing style doors provide simple access, two in the front for the pilot and co-pilot and one for the back row of seats.
The pilot and co-pilot chairs can be adjusted. The central stick is ergonomic and has a sporting feel that is unique to Panthera. The two back seats are very spacious and comfortable. There is a supersized cargo door - typical cabin luggage-sized - but freight may also be accessed from the cockpit during the flight.
For an exquisite feel and functionality, the inside is outfitted with high-quality leather and LED lighting.
2:18 - 3 Configurations
The Panthera has 3 main configurations:
The standard one is powered by a Lycoming IO-540V engine with a max power of 200 kW or 260 horsepower. On top of that, it has a takeoff distance of 2,155 feet or 660 meters and a landing distance of 2,300 feet or 700 meters.
The second one is Panthera Hybrid. The Panthera's 200 kW hybrid-electric powerplant, which is supplemented by a cutting-edge battery system and range-extender generator unit developed specifically for the Panthera, is a true aviation revolution. It has a takeoff distance of 1,740 feet or 530 meters and a landing distance of 1,870 feet or 570 meters.
The third one is Panthera Electro. This Panthera variant, with its pure-electric 200 kW powertrain, is a delight for high-tech fans and those concerned about the environment. The goal is to demonstrate the ability to travel 400 kilometers or 215 miles silently, efficiently, with zero emissions, and at a quarter of the cost. Like the Hybrid version, Panthera Electro has a takeoff distance of 1,740 feet or 530 meters and a landing distance of 1,870 feet or 570 meters.
All 3 versions have the same maximum take off weight of 2,900 lbs or 1,315 kilograms.
4:17 - Performance
The maximum speed is expected to be 200 knots. There is no other four-seat aircraft that can fly this quickly on the same engine! This results in much cheaper running costs and easy maintenance for the owner or operator.
The Panthera has a ceiling of 25,000 feet or 7,600 meters. The maximum range of 1,000 nautical miles or 1,900 kilometers is possible with any payload, which is something that four-seat pilots have been asking for.
5:34 - Safety
Panthera is a personal high-performance safety bubble. The plane has a full-airframe parachute rescue system that was expressly constructed to be deployed at both low and high speeds, as well as low altitudes, as part of its comprehensive serial equipment. In the case of an accident, the cabin has been designed as a safety cell or roll bar, with built-in energy absorption zones, giving enhanced safety to the occupants. The seats and safety belts have been designed to meet the most recent +26G CS/FAR-23 certification criteria.
7:14 - Technology
Panthera's beautiful lines have been extensively aerodynamically optimized utilizing proprietary, cutting-edge computational fluid dynamics tools, resulting in a smooth and clean design. The specifically developed wing airfoils are tailored for cruising efficiency and thus speed while maintaining a high maximum lift and docile stall characteristics. Its instantly recognizable T-tail reduces interference drag and improves spin characteristics by keeping the horizontal stabilizer from shadowing the rudder at high angles of attack.
8:53 - Pricing and availability
Pipistrel has begun delivering its Pantheras during the first months of 2022. It is offered in experimental class and in a fully approved version, and has a purchase price of roughly 600,000 dollars.

Looks cool, but 200 knots is not enough to make the cost compelling. This feels more like design before function.

@@juliuskona3299 a used DA42 is a much, much, much better aircraft at this price range. Safer, ruggeder, and a much better IFR go places do things machine. The DA50RG, while more expensive new and marginally slower, is also a much better machine. I'm not a huge fan of cirruses, but broadly speaking, a good used cirrus in the 300k-400k range is a better aircraft overall than this is. I think you non-pilots here don't really have a good appreciation of how limited this panthera is due to lack of anti-ice and its overall fragility. While the panthera may be slightly faster as a VFR DAY tourer, people looking for this kind of speed and range need real ifr capability and robustness that the panthera does not offer. You'll fly a panthera like this in real IFR turbulent conditions exactly once before swearing it off forever. There's a reason why the DA42 has a long waiting list to purchase while real pilots have a sniff of this panthera based on looks, crunch the numbers, and walk away.
