Some friendly advice, I know I see people saying to “breed early” but 4 months is really early to be breeding large breeds. Some people breed New Zealand’s or Florida Whites that early as part of a factory farm process but at the expense of the doe burning out early. Silver Foxes are a six class breed, and Rex though they are smaller, which means they mature over 10 pounds around 9 months or so. You will have better outcomes overall by waiting for them to grow. You will know how large they actually are ( and whether they make weight for their breed standard) because breeding early will stunt their growth. The doe might then go on to produce for you for much longer, maybe five years or so. The does will be better mothers their first time. Please look into it, there is a lot of advice floating around on the internet.

I appreciate your advice! Thank you. I am just speaking from my own experience. I never claim to know everything. Everyday has a new learning experience. I do know that Silver Fox take longer to breed at usually 6 to 8 months. That is why I have been cross breeding Rex and silver fox. My brown doe is a cross between the two and I bred her at 16 weeks. I am holding back a another doe from a litter and I will have to maybe try your advice with her. Thank you! God Bless

Have you tried fodder feeding & growing? Just wandering the cost ratios involved. If it saves money or not. And how are you planting and harvesting food for your rabbits? Is itsustainable & worth the extra work involved?

The little rabbits are growing so quickly! We are looking into getting some rabbits and live in a similar climate as you guys (we are next door in VT). Do you have any recommended reading materials or KZread channels for rabbit keeping in colder climates? We are concerned about keeping them in proper conditions in the winter here.

Hello! Rabbits actually do very well in the winter. They do better in cold climates than they do warm. Just make sure they stay dry and no wind can get on them and they will do just fine! Also you will have to give them bowls of water at least twice a day at a minimum. I like to give all my rabbits nest boxes during the winter months as well but that's just my preference. If your rabbits tend to soil the boxes then I wouldn't. But mine don't usually do that.

I don't know of any. It really just depends on what's available in your area. I usually source breeders through craigslist and then keep their contact info for future reference in case I need more. But now that I have them I just breed my own breeding stock.
