Inside India’s explosive population growth | 101 East Documentary

India has surpassed China as the world’s most populous country.
Driven by states like Bihar, the country's population is forecast to continue growing.
With Bihar’s fertility rate much higher than the national average, authorities are using a raft of family planning measures, including incentives for sterilisations, which critics say places the burden unfairly on women.
Home to more than 120 million people, competition for jobs is tougher than ever as the state struggles to curb its high unemployment rate.
101 East investigates attempts to control India’s population growth and the challenges of finding work in the world’s most populous country.

@@Fan-zx1lz swthane saying that children did not have a choice in the matter, is an inane thing to say. What child would have made some other choice than to come alive and be born? And what about all the people who somehow expect corrupt governments to provide their pension plans? What of the saying that "blood is thicker than water"? Isn't security in one's own family or in having many children, possibly more reliable than trusting in the economy and government? I figure if you want old-age-security, you have far more security in having 10 children than in having 1. 10 children is a large range of possibilities, that at least one of your children will be in a good position to take you into their home, when or if you become old or disabled, and do it willingly and be glad to do it. Having only 1 child is a huge burden on the children. So this 1 child is responsible for 2 parents and 4 grandparents? Is that even realistic?

Not every job in Southern India is IT based. TN, for example has quite a diversified economy in manufacturing, services, as well as IT. The biggest advantage South India has is access to education for women, liberal values that uplift women, as well as the general literacy rate which all contribute to TN's GDP. It's important to mention the Social services that also are designed to help women reach higher levels of education. TN has one of highest rates of graduates and post-graduates in India.

Thats why climate change is occurring at a fast rate, cause societies are advancing from that "poor" conservative era; poor conservative cultures tend to over populate, as thats the only way they survive and their religion to survive, as this applies world wide; When liberalism and modern societies come in, less population growth, less marriages, less children being born. I felt so bad for the guy whose mother was scolding him, thinking that he was goofing off in school. You could see how stressed out he was. We have a similar problem to a lesser extent in the US. Everyone claims to be hiring, but so few qualified people are getting hired either because they are too over-qualified and companies don't want to pay higher wages, or because employers have wildly unrealistic expectations that don't match up with the salaries they offer. It's causing rising unemployment and under-employment rates that are contributing to younger generations no longer having disposable incomes. A lot of younger people will get scolded by older generations who no longer understand how the economy works and get frustrated that their children and grandchildren aren't leading the same lives that they did decades ago.

South Indian states effectively control the population, boast high literacy rates, and contribute significantly to tax revenue for the country. However, the state of Karnataka receives only 15 rupees out of every 100 rupees in taxes, while Bihar receives 800 rupees, yet people from Bihar still migrate to the South for employment.

India's population explosion started after the independence when hindu monks encouraged the hindu population to increase their birth rates to prevent the minority Muslim population from overtaking them by number and become the majority instead of hindu people. The problem started there and this belief continued and was encouraged and preached to the masses by monks in every occasion and for decades. That's why India's population is out of control right now. Blame your hindu monks, not the Muslim minority!

As of this year it's now climbed to 1.4 billion and is predicted to reach 1.7 billion by the middle of this century!
