Inside Glasgow's underground after-hours party scene

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In the second of our Global Street Style documentaries, i-D crosses the border into Scotland to meet the young people carving out Glasgow's underground scene.
Discontent with the current political climate, they are artfully rebelling, reclaiming the city and throwing illegal after-hours parties. In this love letter to inner-city Scottish misfits, we discover more about the ripple effects of regeneration on Glaswegian youth culture.

This literally has no narrative. Is it about politics? Is it about parties? Is it about skateboarding? Is it about blowing up houses? Or is it just a heavily stylised video designed to portray an image of Glasgow that is so far out of kilter with what the underground scene is really about?

Laura Gregson Exactly. What an empty, pretentious load of bollox, like pretty much everything on ID. I'm totally down with partying, having a sense of style, and doing something different from the mainstream, but all the pseudo political blah blah and posing is just ridiculous. Do they not get tired of themselves?

Load of bollocks. Theres nothing political about it. Its a place to go and get mwi and listen to good tunes not some post brexit political statement fs. And Glasgow has had after parties for over 20 years and the legit afters spots were not daft enough to allow this unnecessary publicity of what should be done "incognito"

David T. Pocock aye man it's so daft. To be fair on the arty troops they were under the impression that the video was going to be about young creatives in Glasgow and actually had a lot of their artwork edited out. People that have spoken to are not too happy about the way that it has been portrayed.

The one girl in the clothes store kind of gave it away. ''I want to look back on this in 5-years and say I tried it''. It's a phase. And more importantly, she knows this isn't the life she has to live. The true reflection of Glasgow would be the people living on estates, not some artsy fartsy student from out of town.

Middle class students kidding on they're working class by having raves with other middle class students while they're wearing trackies and trying to act working class is literally the least anti establishment stance anyone has ever took ever. If they were actually anti establishment they would take action to help the most vulnerable people in society, not hold raves in empty warehouses.

Hmmm. It's hardly "incognito" if your "secret location" is clearly identifiable in the video! Those abandoned railway arches are in the Gorbals, right behind the Laurieston pub where some of this was filmed (just around the corner from me) - I'm sure these West End hipsters think they're so edgy for venturing south of the river for a party, but I can guarantee they wouldn't last five minutes walking around here at any other time. This video is definitely not representative of ordinary Glaswegians.

Go round the back of the Laurieston pub (shown in the video) and there are some abandoned railway arches (also visible in the vid) that are often used for parties. It was exactly England that gave birth to such parties. So no, those kids are not copying skins, skins is copying their grandparents

There's a few decent afters spots about Glasgow which are probably bigger and better than Incognito which they didn't mention much in the video.

We've been doing this stuff for 30 odd years! On farms, reservoirs, old schools, in tents in the middle of nowhere! The Soundhaus was the nearest we got to having that all-nighter underground vibe in a club situation...until the effing Labour council, the "friend of the working class" (what a joke) put more and more barriers in our way, cutting back our licence hours until it was hardly worth opening up any more! It was good while it lasted tho'!

I am surprised with the producers of the video, Glasgow does have a decent underground scene, and these were the best example of after parties the film company could come up with? I suppose the guys really doing it would never appear on screen.

Because we're tired of being inundated with leftist politics in EVERYTHING. If ID is about music & fashion, or indeed ID as the name suggests why not shoot a video on actual NEDS who's identity these posh tossers are imitating? Because gangs of white working class boys on Glasgow's estates aren't going to whining about Brexit & gender neutrality.

If government was reformed to their liking, they would still have a problem with it. Young people will always find a problem with society because they like to feel like they are rebelling. It makes them feel in control.
