    The concerns were valid. The Bretton Woods agreement states the USA paid 30% of all subscriptions and it was paid in Gold during the 1950's. That would eat a lot of gold up.

    I can think of two places with more extreme security than Fort Knox: Atlanta federal center of disease control and a Google data server farm. Loosing a few gold bars is one thing but it would not be as bad as a deadly highly contagious disease set loose on the population or a complete national scale server crash costing trillions.

  • @beyondplanesight
    @beyondplanesight5 ай бұрын

    So… that same gold is worth $24 trillion now? We could basically pay off our national debt and have an empty room. I’m imagining the reason the government doesn’t do that is because the interest rates for borrowing money have generally been lower than the appreciation value of gold. This makes me much less concerned about the US debt knowing just one room can pay it off.

If you look carefully, the last comma is not a comma, but a decimal point and there are three decimal places shown after it. The narrator is incorrect as the comment above points out.

    It doesn't. There isn't enough gold on the planet to match the production of labor. This is why it's pointless. That ship sailed decades ago. The dollar is based on the ability of the US to pay its bills, which itself is based on the productivity of its workers. I may have fudged the details a bit. But that is the essence. ''The dollar is backed by the word or promise of the U.S. Federal Reserve to put the full faith and credit of the U.S. government behind the dollar... Because the United States is probably the least likely country to ever default on its debt, the world measures other currencies against the U.S. dollar.''

    That dude lifted a gold BRICK (not bar) with 4 fingers... Thumb and middle on each hand. There is NO fucking way that is real gold. That shit would be pretty damn heavy, and most likely require both hands; and some back muscle to lift. I don't think we're as rich as we claim to be as a nation... Even though that gold belongs to private banks, not the USA.

    I don’t think so much money and effort would be put into protecting this place 24/7 (insane amount of security that is costly), if it wasn’t the real thing stored there and still there!!. We can always doubt and question things, but all the signs point to the fact that is the real thing. It is possible that what we saw in the video could have been for show and the real thing was somewhere else in the facility for security purposes. But still, what we saw if that was the case probably still represents what was really there at that time. However, this was not just reporters, but Congress members that were there holding the gold bars. I say it was the real deal, someone would realize something isn’t right. They were weighing and measuring. At the end of the day I just think that you don’t put a lot of costly security in place unless there is something major to protect, and this security was amped up big time after 9/11.

    @Shawn Long A lot of money is put into security for Fort Knox because they don’t want other enemy nations to know that we actually don’t have much gold. And it also works as a medium of exchange to borrow from other countries if they can deceive them that we have gold to back up our debt. It’s all a big game that they’re cheating on and hoping no one will catch on to.
