I've seen some of them working under the table for cash in some spots. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of those opportunites for every single one. But agree with some of the comments above that some are just waiting for anything thats given. It's tough either way. Especially when you think of all the other latino groups that are well establiahed here already and look out for each other. There's no network of Venezuelans here yet for them to rely on each other. Sadly, a lot of us other latinos just talk shit saying they're this and that instead of helping each other out, when all of our families have been through similar journeys.

Bro, we can't help our own people. How the hell do ppl expect the US to take care of all of these people? We have our own people struggling to get jobs and becoming homeless. We cannot be the hero for everyone. Not only that, the criminals are sneaking in with the actual people that need help. Thats a whole different issue. We need to take care of our own people first, before we even try to help someone on the outside.

This needed to be gradual not as it being done. They feel that they have as much right to be here as everyone else. I have family members that have fought in wars, so I don't believe that. He and the democrats more worried about other countries and their borders when we have our own invasion of military aged males from all over the world sneaking into our country. This is why we need Trump back. He put America and Americans first and they called him racist for it. But look at us now. He was right we need that wall! #TRUMP2024 Make America Great Again.

That's not true at all man! I'm an Elmhurst resident (so 20 mins with no traffic and I'm at the lake from 290) and everyone around me including myself are against bringing all of them to Chicago. I saw them all over the streets first hand five different times through the months of July and August. And it was crazy. They're everywhere because they can't be in the hotels during the day. So the alleys are just full of them. So don't say everybody from the suburbs is like that because that's absolutely not true. There are many people from the city that are all for the Palestines coming to Chicago as well.

The media does its best to show the ugliest parts of both sides of this argument without coming up with any real solutions. With how powerful the federal government and even state and local in some cases, it is absolutely a disgrace that this problem cannot be solved in a way that actually benefits the people coming here for a better life and the people already here that are also struggling to attain a better life.

It's like 50 people outside, it's cold and raining.i understand they have a situation they're trying to escape, but we need closed and secured borders. There is great unrest in the world right now, these folks need to solve the issues they have at home. They estimate there will be at least 15 busses a day (40-50 people/bus)coming into the city, now imagine just 20 percent of them have children within the next 9-12 months. The majority of them are men, we're to assume that out of over 3k people not one is a current gang member, drug dealer, hitman, terrorist, grapist?

I think the interviews would have been a lot more forced and awkward had he approached them only speaking English. They still ultimately seemed to be pretty surface level though as I don;t think hes able to have more complex conversations yet in Spanish.

Well the part of the story that is left out is the Vet is an addict or alcoholic and is unwilling to go to the treatment services that are offered and he cant get into any housing because they're all drug and alcohol free. That is the biggest problem with the homeless outreach in the US is their strict abstinence policies. Every homeless person in the US pretty much has the opportunity to go into treatment if they wanted to, they just choose not to. But until they do, or until the outreach programs relax the rules on drugs/alcohol and at least let ppl in initially then help them get sober once theyre inside and safe then the homeless issue will keep on the way it is. I doubt the refugee housing has these same rules.

Same thing in NYC. Homeless everywhere. Hotels filled with migrants. My buddy tried to book a hotel room for the night in brookln and 3 different hotels cancelled their reservation on after another a couple weeks after booking because hotels are closing to house migrants. Left her without a room last minute. I booked a room in brooklyn months in advance for the same night and my reservation was cancelled last minute with no explaination or response from the hotel when i inquired about the abrupt cancelation assumedly because of the same reason. NYC also basically banned Airbnbs so it left me scrambling to figure something out last minute. Its the same in manhattan and queens. The city runs on tourism and tourists cant even get a place to stay. Its bad.

All these hotels and facilities that house illegal immigrants are profiting off the crisis by taking the government contracts. I wouldn’t be surprised that the hotel owners are charging the government triple the day rate (maybe more) knowing the government is desperate. It explains why they are not prioritizing tourism bookings they make more money housing illegals.

We all play a part in helping our brothers and sisters. So now since the homeless and vets are a topic because of this situation how about we protest just as hard for vets and the homeless and give the same energy for them like we are giving energy to complain about this crisis.

Many of the homeless are drug addicts and alcoholics. Housing comes with the stipulation that they would have to be sober. Most aren’t willing to enter into that agreement. Would have to offer something like a “ Wet house” which the UK has. ( in this case it involves providing a controlled amount of alcohol to the residents.) These are people that have not been successful with recovery programs. The idea behind it is that it gives them a safe place to live and a sense of community. And I guess it’s also a “ win” for tax payers. It’s a form of “ harm reduction”. The homeless people that should be a priority are the ones working who still can’t afford a roof over their heads. The immigrants in this vid seem like they are grateful and want to contribute to society. But no city can afford to have an unlimited number pouring in! It’s simply a matter of logistics, not one of humanity.

Here's an answer, albeit an unfortunate one, as I too believe all people should have housing. Migrants contribute to the economy. They take the low-paying and difficult jobs that most Americans don't want to work, and there's a surplus of these kind of jobs, especially now. *Agriculture in this country would literally collapse overnight without migrant workers* as that entire sector heavily relies on their labor, with immigrants comprising the vast majority of agricultural workers. Though in the short term accommodating these newly arrived migrants will cost sanctuary cities like Chicago a fortune, in the long-term their participation in the workforce and taxes will benefit the economy substantially. Homeless people on the other hand, are unfortunately a drain on the economy. Most do not have jobs or contribute much in the way of tax dollars, so they're a net loss for the economy. In my own personal opinion this doesn't mean they don't deserve housing, but in the view of politicians and even the public, this makes them a burden. This is a systemic failure where the root causes fail to be addressed, in large part because of apathy and negligence, but also because it's a very complicated problem to solve. Homelessness is a very multifaceted issue, as there's so many contributing factors - mental health, drug addiction, lack of education, unemployment, criminality. It's very hard to stabilize let alone rehabilitate many of these people. So unfortunately with that kind of glaring contrast between migrants and the homeless, it's not hard to see why politicians would choose to allocate tax dollars to migrants and not the homeless.

  • @TheHavePositivity

@@purplespaceship2417 Well said, I can understand that side of it. But my main focus is our vets. As you said mental health, drug addiction, lack of education, unemployment, criminality. These are all part of the people who don't want to try and establish themselves as a working citizen, get clean or help. I know many people who have just fallen on hard times, but they went through blood, sweat and tears climbing out of that hole. Personally I don't believe it should be this hard to get help and get out of that place as I also know a lot that failed. If people are wanting to change there lives just like how the migrants did, why don't they get the help migrants are. As I said before everyone should have a roof over there head, and food in there stomachs, but some go without for days. Go from place to place looking for a job, getting turned down because they don't have a bank account, Place of residence, or clean clothes consistently on there backs. I believe everyone should have a chance at the American dream, but with everything going on in the us. Its hard to get by working a full time job, causing many people to work a second just to pay for housing, food and other necessities. The problem comes from the top top, if it can ever be fixed up there many people would have a lot better of a chance at establishing themselves here, and also coming here.

    7 ай бұрын

@@sarbantz I'll say this first; saying racism use to be a way to make someone feel guilty or if that's all someone could come up with, pull the race card. Doesn't work on me. Good try. I don't see how you sense racism truly when it's about our borders being invaded like crazy with people from many different places. Not a specific race. There isn't a specific color or race . You speak on Chicago having enough room for them all; put that aside for a moment and think that maybe it's not that there isn't room but it's the fact they are getting free money, a phone, a roof over their head and getting treated good. Many US citizens on the street, trying to work, battling addiction, have healthcare problems and not a damn thing to help the people who have been here since birth. It's not about people coming here, it's about the rush of so many not knowing where they are from, their intentions, diseases being brought over the border and like NY, laying out on sidewalks as if it's nothing. If you did research, you'd see where having open borders and migrants pouring in is one big way to usher in communism. That's usually how communist nations begin. And this makes you think of racism? Doesn't fit the definition. Also have you noticed that so many are young men, military age and they've been doing military training already which includes indoctrination about US citizens . So there's a good reason they had everyone come in . No accident. A friend of mine is an Uber driver and he was driving a migrant to it's destination. Said he was nice and also said he was a migrant who was trained for backup military. Not for other countries. But being trained to fight us if we rise up. They give them an app on their phone and when it beeps, that means they have a message and have to return to their location. Said when he got here he wasn't forced but basically pushed to take the classes, military. And the US is using them as pawns to wipe us out. He said the guy was from Columbia and said he actually doesn't want to be in the US anymore but can't leave. So where's the racism?? This has nothing to do with color. And you know that.

I live in a pretty quiet area and lately it’s been flipped upside down nearly. Not to mention that some are even trying to snake jobs away from locals and working and for much less when the wages are already barely enough to get by in this state.. Eventually it’ll only wind up being just as bad as the place’s that everyone flees away from and the problem people that slip in with the decent ones who just want some sense of safety and want nothing more than to return home to the places the know and love as soon as possible. It’s all the other ones that have other plans of causing problems and disappearing into crowded populated areas that are a huge concern too..… But we definitely need to take care of our own people before we go worrying about the rest of the world!…. 😏🙄🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Chicago still is a nice city, tell that to the millions of international tourists Chicago sees annually. If anything it’s got more nicer with downtown expanding from new skyscrapers being built because they’re always under construction with more breaking ground at the beginning of next year. Nothing is perfect in this world and every city has its problems this is nothing new from ancient cities to current. Also never live in fear, especially in fear of another human being that bleeds just like you.

Well, you guys used to make fun of Texas for opposing illegal inmigración (not sure if you still do it). Do you remember ? Weird how your city is collapsing after receiving a tiny fraction of the illegal immigrants you can find in Texas . Now, Texas, unlike your city and state, is not a “sanctuary” for people who violate U.S. laws.

I’m not from Texas and I don’t blame him. He told them about the illegal immigration problem, politicians didn’t listen so he sent them to their cities to make them listen. I understand that it’s affecting the American citizens but when you have those who don’t do anything sometimes you got to do what you got to do to bring your point across. You all can nark on me but I stand by this.
