Inside A REAL Final Fantasy 14 Cult: The Story of Dreadwyrm Academy

Ойындар

Xeno reacts to a tale from the duty finder, the story of Dreadwyrm Academy, an FC with cult like rules which was ruled with an iron fist. Xeno, with the help of chat, also finds an archived link of their website from the past, and using the Wayback Machine he manages to see who the Dreadwyrm Academy members were, what were they doing and the rules they had to follow.

    I was part of this FC. The original drama and mob did it's job very well. Sprouts who didn't know any better left to enjoy themselves elsewhere. Cult Leader Neph quit. The current FC leader is a total sweetheart and awesome person who stuck up for us all when things went down and has been de facto leader for years. She made sure Neph didn't come back to start again. I REALLY hope that this video doesn't cause people to wrongly harass a current FC that doesn't deserve it.

    It's crazy how power hungry this person was. Is it really that hard to just neutrally say the FC doesn't do savage? According to the posts, anyone who asked the leaders why they didn't want to do savage, the leaders would nag your ear off about their opinions on how bad they are. Like, the player didn't ask for their opinions on savage raids, so why are they so adamant about NEEDING to tell their FC players who haven't tried it yet how bad they think it is?

But you basically had to Run only at times that it didnt bother the FC, didnt try to get anyone else to join you, anything that promoted doing it at all, because he felt if you do Savage you'll become a big mean elitist. The Hypocrisy comes when I caught him day-one'ing Memoria EX and when I asked to join he at first wouldnt let me because "Oh you wouldnt know how, and I already gotta teach someone else" and only relented because I had cleared it more than he did already.

    If you wanna do savage, pick a job/role you wanna play, watch a p1s guide so you know the mechanics, join a PF-group that says „practice“ and run it until you kill it. Continue with p2s and so on. Might be a good idea to wait till next tier though, since lockout has just been lifted. Savage ain’t THAT hard if you don’t give a crap about your parse. Do the mechanics, try to optimise your playstyle with The Balance as a ressource, and your damage should be sufficient. Check on SSS. If you have time left over, it’s enough damage.

And I can understand the leads saying "if you feel we are moving too slow move on", but I think the way they expressed all of this here is just bad. We had the same "rule" in our community about pace, but it was expressed more like "this is a way to teach those new to raiding. If you feel you have gotten all you can from us and feel confident going faster, we understand if you wish to leave and wish you the best." We also did NOT kick them from the community - they were welcome back any time. Because that should be the point of a group that is teaching - at some point the students will graduate and sometimes you may not even have students.

    Ok, I'm Bezz the one who was being targeted by those posts on their website. Neph tried to gatekeep savage from me, and when i left he went nuclear and a friend still in dwa showed me everything he was saying about me and those posts from the DWA forum that you're showingb.I'm. The one who provided all those screenshots and made the dwa subreddit. Please stop giving life to DWA this was 2 years ago. A lot of bad shit happened to the former members. Some I'm still close with. We've all moved on but it keeps being brought back up and we all get pmed, and dragged about it.

    I had heard about this group back in ShadowBringers and had an alt over there that got in. They tried to say I wasn't ready to do savage despite out-dpsing Arc as a samurai and even several people on summoner. So I went and joined a static anyway. Cleared all the current content before they managed to. Came back. flexed my fancy gear. Then proceeded to lali-hop my way into a few ultimate clears as well. All the while taking a bunch of people who Arc and Neph said weren't ready and getting them through the content. with literally zero issues. So if anyone is wondering why 30-40 people left during February? Well. I took them and gave them better homes. Current leadership is solid though, No insanity to be seen. props to them for fixing the dumpster fire that it was. Edit: for clarification. I was only in the FC because I was looking for company buffs while grinding up my alt. When I tried to recruit people in the FC to do practice, they put a hard stop to it. So I told them that regardless of them saying so. I'll have a group up in PF. They then kicked me, but the damage was done and several people began to come right to my PF, and I started doing multiple runs every day for multiple groups. Mostly made from people from the cult. the amount of hypocrisy they showed was amazing. But I made a lot of good friends from those who split off.

    That sounds pretty awesome. You're confident and know what you want from the game, and I think the novices in that guild gravitated to you because they unconsciously want the freedom and excitement of trying new things, and people that stayed tend to be the anxious people who don't have a lot of personality nor know what they want, and thus actually welcome the suffocating structure and rules of a despotic leader. I'm old enough now to sense the weird vibes of cult-like or insular friend-group guilds and possess the strength of character to just break away and do what I want, but a teenage me from long ago probably would have been sucked in, stuck waiting for approval that would never come. It's fortunate that the guilds in MMOs I played were usually the really laid-back ones, and because I like playing alone chasing solo-able collectibles, I guess I put myself far away from the vortex of drama like this.

    I still find it so interesting how people are scared to do endgame content in this game, both savage and ultimates. People have this extreme anxiety of getting kicked off of parties or blacklisted by some for a mistake, I used to be like this too until i realized that's normal and something everyone goes through at some point. I was an awkward as fuck player who did UCoB before even doing a savage, it was hella painful at first but I managed to perfect myself and become a pretty respected person around my friends. Having anxiety on your first time is understandable, outright banning it in your FC because of some personal salt/bad experiences is just insane

  • @Nyeril

    @Nyeril

    I dunno man, i understand the anxiety. Ive seen so many parties where people get pissed off and disband or straight up boot people for one mistake from a god damn practice from start party. Savage and ultimate have alot more time investment tied to them than normal shit. Its not that surprising.

  • @handles_are_idiotic

    @handles_are_idiotic

    @@Nyeril If you do a simple mistake and the party disband you move on, that's exactly what I mentioned in my comment, everyone goes through it and people need to understand it's normal. Because mr. tilted dps over there has been doing UCoB for the past 5 months without getting his clear got pissed and booted you off the party for a simple mistake doesn't mean you're a shit player neither should you take it personally. But seeing people pay for clears or flat out avoid PF entirely just because they think getting blacklisted by someone is the end of the world, I feel like people need to relax a little bit. And this goes especially for FC's (like old DWA) who ban members or are heavily against members doing savages with anyone that isn't them, it's just stupid

    Honestly? I got kind of turned off of savage after getting to 90 in an FC I was in. People like to say "well if you raided in WoW that doesn't mean anything here", but it actually does. It means you are willing to put in the time to learn the fights, adapt, and be responsible to other people. It's not like WoW raids have no mechanics so it means you can learn mechanics. I think FF14 players want to be respected and not viewed by WoW players as "less than", but this goes both ways. TL;DR - there are a lot of cultish FC's in this game. And yes, we cleared P1S after like 3 or 4 pulls since that fight is likely the easiest. I do love that they didn't make savage a priority, but also will pretty much dismiss people for doing them without the FC - which implies they are a priority, but in a bad way. Or maybe they are just uber-casual. I was in a WoW guild that would /gkick people who dared try a normal raid outside of the group - because they didn't want other people in the guild to be interested in it. The leads who made the unspoken rule wanted to be the only ones doing normal or higher raids.

    I know this is an older vid, but some of those points in the "pillars" were decent at least for low level play, just worded really badly as absolute rules rather then guidelines they should be, I dunno how it's in savage/unreals but in the content I normally do, LBs are typically reserved for bosses, that said it also depends on the role, melee DPS LBs are overkill and waste of a bar on trash (it's single target only), most of the time healer LBs are same (LB1 and LB2 are less effective them just spamming AoE heals IIRC and LB3 is a wipe prevention), caster and ranged are more group LBs though either to be used on trash or an add phase, still you should discuss with your group when to use that.

And if im online why would you be doing anything other than progressing your FC? If that isnt for you then dont join one or atleast one like that. sure it comes off as a tad draconian but sometimes ppl think every FC is to just rp or do whatever and some are very serious about what they do. Their rules and expectations aren't hidden, it's everywhere and tbh I respect the rigid outline. A Dreadwyrm Academy exists in almost every game if you look. Savage is only hard if you can't learn and grow from failure, more you play at savage level the easier it gets. All you need to do to succeed is know the fights, know where to be (situational awareness) and most of all know your class and to a lesser degree others abilities and limitations. Above all have fun with it, failure is not the end don't get weird about failing learn and try again. Savage honestly lets me experience what this game's dungeons used to be like and evey then some fights aren't even that hard as I had back then.
