In this week’s episode, we tour a spacious four-bedroom unit at The Sea View.
Prior to relocating to Singapore, the homeowner resided in a New Jersey townhouse in the US, distinguished by its beautiful rustic exterior and well-curated interior, filled with classic mid-century pieces.
Many of these timeless furnishings have found their place in his current abode. Together with his interior design expertise, he was able to lay the foundation for a captivating Japandi fusion we’ll see today.
As we step inside, the entryway is adorned with drop wood paneling that brings an element of intimacy and warmth.
The space harmoniously merges into the living room, revealing an array of the aforementioned mid-century furniture pieces. The neutral, earthy color palette amplifies the coziness, complemented by the soft ambient lighting.
Transitioning outdoors, the balcony has been transformed into an inviting oasis, enveloped by flourishing greenery and fairy lights. It features an inviting lounge set, with a view of the lush greenery below.
As we venture back indoors, the living room highlights long extended light wood paneling that subtly marries the home's themes. A story of the unintentional Japandi themes that evolved, this paneling was initially meant to complement the white flooring, unexpectedly infusing an oriental touch into the house - which the owner fully embraced.
The dining space, elegantly separated by a low wood console, exudes simplicity. Designed in a unified wood palette, the designer pendant lamp casts a soft glow, while vast windows treat diners to a panoramic vista of the serene green surroundings.
Adjacent to the dining area, a U-shaped kitchen (smartly concealed when desired), features terrazzo flooring and deeper woody tones. The integration of various wooden panels helps conceal counters on the side, while seamlessly transitioning between spaces.
The tour leads us to the bedrooms, where concealed doors blend with wood paneling to create a flowing corridor. The first bedroom (transformed into a study), bears witness to the homeowner's mid-century treasures, doubling up as a space for music and reflection.
The second bedroom, designed as a guest retreat, fits a queen-sized bed, showcasing the practical approach adopted for flexible modifications.
Adjacent lies the junior master, also serving as a guest room. Again, it is furnished with simple, yet tasteful furniture.
Finally, the master bedroom embodies comfort, characterized by a window settee and a comfy king-sized bed - all topped up with a soothing color palette. A walk-in wardrobe has also been carved out into the side, providing adaptable storage solutions for its user.
As always, special thanks to the homeowner for allowing us to tour his beautiful home.

In case anyone is wondering, that painting/picture in the living room was made by Zorikto Dorzhiev. Really cool piece of art.

Yes they do!
One thing I observed about the apartment is the purposeful placement and choice of lighting. The apartment does not have too many ceiling or down lights that we more commonly seen in apartments in Asia. In fact, the whole large living room only has a pair of down light to illuminate the art piece and this gives rise to the very clean ceiling look - bold but surprising comfortable. The owner makes use of a combination of designer floor, table, wall and pendant lights to illuminate different spaces giving it a nice inviting feel. I am curious to see how the apartment will look and feel in the evening.

Thank you for such great insights!
Love the aesthetic, and also wow that balcony is to die for! It is my dream to have a bigger condo so my pups can be comfy. Hope one day my pups and I can upgrade to a home with more space.

What a great dream!
This apartment is definitely my goal: japandi wood accent and cabinetry, mid century modern furniture, lush balcony filled with plants, lots of natural light, and beautiful displays for painting, books, potteries, and LPs.

This is a well put together place...he has taste & his international experience would no doubt impacted some of his decisions. There is a nice flow from bedroom to bedroom, gradually increasing in spaces well used...nothing overdone. Like that seemless apperance along the wood finished walls...and there the entrances to thw bedrooms are, love it!

I love bright airy houses. Being a bachelor doesn’t need to stick to dark colours. I am definitely not so knowledgeable about what decor this house is… but it gives a homely feeling. Great taste.

Very tastefully done up. Owner is a refined person too as evidenced by his cello, art piece, vinyl records. Not sure abt the $125k for the work done though, seems to be mainly on the wooden paneling and minimal carpentry..

Frankly there's no "designing" per se here. Nice enough with lots of plants.

125k SGD to renovate the whole flat like that? In Canada 125k barely gets you a bathroom and a kitchen rénovation with cheap material 😂

Meh
Boring, Uninspiring, Typical. I hope this channel would actually showcase other type of home that don't look like this. Cuz seems like all the homes looks exactly like this... but seems like people are easily impressed, throw in some buzz words suddenly the design is UNIQUE, CURATED, MINDFUL, etc......
