Insert Fastener | How It Works | Where It Goes | How Does It Stack Up To McMaster Carr | How To

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video we are going to take a look at the new Insert Fastener tool in Fusion 360. This was added in the last big update but it has been sort of hidden. So in this video we are going to look at how it works, where the fasteners are stored, and how is compares to McMaster Carr.

Great advice on the advantages of using the new tool vs goong through the importation of the parts. I did not know this was available. Thanks Matt

it is worth a shot for sure. Pros and cons to each. I find myself still using Mcmaster most of the time.

Interesting. played with it for a few months in preview but it wasn't quite ready and no real instructions. Seems like it could be a plus. Would be nice if it had a "My Fasteners" sections that kept commonly used fasteners rather than searching from scratch each time

Great suggestion! You could drag/drop them from the fasteners project in the data panel, but i agree having a "commonly used" or even showing whats in that folder in a filter would be great. I will make that suggestion next time I talk with the PM over the design tools at Autodesk.

This is going to be a great tool for me going forward, no more duplicates of duplicates and it looks like on the fly changes would be way easier

Yeah I am like 50/50 glad that it defaults to a project called Fasteners but that is not ideal in all cases.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign it kind of surprises me how great both of these systems are but yet they’re separate period. If they integrated them together, it would make multi component assemblies much easier to design. Does this just include hardware like nuts and bolts or are there other components like rods and bearings because that would be an awesome integration as well.

@@Noughtta currently its nuts, bolts, and washers. Inventor has tools to generate bearings, cotter pins, shafts etc. I don't know if Fusion will go that way but it sure would be nice. Inventor can build these base on calculations which is a great feature. It will help you pick the right size components. but yeah if this was integrated into Mcmaster or another hardware vendor that would be amazing.

Hi. Thanks for your great videos. Can you please make a video about the sketch manipulation point for the curve? Sometimes it just freezes and can't be moved even after deleting constraints. I've read that this is a bug in the past but i think it is still there. Thanks.

Are you talking about a spline? And do you mean moving the spline point will freeze fusion? or just the curve can no longer be moved? I haven't run into that personally and I use a lot of spline curves. I mainly focus on the control point style spline. When i use the standard spline with the points on the curve I generally stick with start/end points and control the handles.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign yes spline. I always use fit point spline but after some time while editing i can activate the control handle but it can no longer be moved. The point just freezes, not the fusion. I need to delete and redraw again.

@@skelethornbro Next time that happens select the vertex to show the handle on the spline, then right click on the vertex and see what options you have. Typically you can force an activate/deativate handle that way. Depending on the spline you may be able to "relax" which will deactivate it. Another thing to try is to select the spline and then right click, insert spline point. Sometimes adding a new spline point, even if you just delete it right away, will unlcuk whatever is going on.

@@ZebbeBa Gotcha, I normally pick the location first, the reference face for the head of the bolt and while the dialog is active use the Nominal Length Drop down. I haven't noticed any issues but i also haven't come across something that was outside of the normal ranges. While it doesn't fix the issue, if you insert a bolt that is too short, if you open that up the first user parameter is generally the length of that bolt and can be changed. If you save it (or do a save as with a new name/part number) it can update/ be replaced in your assembly. Again not a smooth fix but if you know the rest of the bolt is correct and just need a longer length than the insert fastener has you can work around that way.

The fasteners are saved and created on the cloud and stored in a fasteners folder. Is that what you mean?

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign My question is why insert fasteners is not available when I want to work in a single user storage environment. The feature is greyed out. But if I switch to the team environment insert fasteners is available to use.
