Welcome to Boat Restoration by Ben! This is a channel based around all things boat and yacht restoration related. I work full time in the marine industry and when I'm not at work, I'm currently restoring my one of a kind 1992 Sea Ray 380 Sun Sport. This is my 12th boat project! From $100 boats to 60 year old relics, I started small and worked my way up. Despite my best judgement, I buy boats that need A LOT of work and fix them up myself. I grew up boating at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, went to school to become an engineer, worked at John Deere for 5 years, and then decided to give it all up to pursue my dream to work in the recreational boat industry. Now having since moved to the Chesapeake Bay area, my mission is to share with the world my love and passion for mechanics and wrenching through my marine projects all while teaching you how to enjoy boats on a budget. I hope you Like these videos and please don't forget to Subscribe! Cheers, Ben.

Hey Ben, I’m also Ben and I also worked at John Deere for 5 years as a welder before leaving and chasing my dreams elsewhere. Love watching your content! Glad you are happy doing what you love.
We have a 50' or so Sea ray Sundancer in a marina here- 14 yr old boat with less than 1000 hours, was a "floating condo" for the original owners- two years ago went on a service call for a complaint of stb engine running rough, low power/smoke. Cummins QSM 11's. Stb engine has scored two cylinders, rust all over rocker arms, pulled injectors and bore scope verified. Gave an estimate to pull the head, evaluate further. Took six months to get the owner to pay for the diagnostic, then he thought he had hung up the phone- was loudly telling someone how we "just wanted to rip him off" so we brought his parts removed to do the diagnostic back, set them in his cockpit and said "have a nice day" It's still there, he bought a boat he can't afford to fix. Nobody else in town will touch it, it's like he expects an experienced diesel tech for five bucks an hour or something.
Dude, I feel your pain I went way down in the southern Kentucky way back in the hollers bought a bass boat. Everything supposedly worked. We brought all way back up here to Northern Ohio and another damn thing worked in the floor was rotted out, fixed it up sold it With the Akron bought 93 Sunbird you were supposed be perfect had replaced the whole freaking floor replaced the fuel tank replaced the seats. The motor had a crack 12 inches long freeze plugs were missing but the guy said he just headed out on Lake Erie impossible I got the motor all put back together and put it back in and then now I found water in oil. I am so depressed. I can’t find anybody to show me how to adjust the shifter cables manually. It goes reverse forward, but with the cables it doesn’t do anything, so I’m stuck. I don’t wanna part it out my wife upset. Have a blessed day.
Gorgeous boat, perfect project. I think you might have been putting the wrong end of the gate catch into the slotted recess. Kind of boat you could fall for. ❤👍
Damnit, if the twin tiki dancers are included I'M IN!!!!!
Plastic thru hulls on a 120k boat? Thats all i needed to hear.. Its worth the value of the motors, not a penny more.. If they went cheap on the thru hulls, that tells you everything else on the boat was done on the cheap..
Nice boat, with a lot of potential. Reasonable price considering everything that needs to be done and it was probably around 250k or more when new. I’m partial to the 39 and 45 ft sport express Hatteras offerings from ‘94-‘98. I’m a former employee that did mechanical/electrical installations at the High Point NC plant before they moved everything to the New Bern plant.
79 k for a lot of question marks? Too much for a diy project.

@HDchico not really, 96 diesel and 2013. Seems on pretty good shape. New Gen., redo wiring and / or replace switches, change out a few pumps/ motors, replace A/C unit and ducting and blower motor. Clean boat, repaint, and fix some fiberglass depending on your usefulness and abilities. You're looking between 20 to 30 grand plus any electronic upgrades. So, if you offer $62,500.00, you might be surprised at how much wiggle room you might get on the price. It's called negotiations. Remember, they can only sell a boat for what someone is willing to pay. They longer it sits the less it is worth.

@@gregchrist5090 wet spots all over, generator don’t run, original engine unknown condition, the other already replaced. Swim platform junk and replacement poorly installed. That’s a pass for a lot of people. With the time and money to get this boat 100 percent you can buy something else that’s been well taken care of.

Way overpriced, just because it is big does not mean anything other than likely more rehab cost. The post-Covid garbage that is on the boat market is a disgrace. $330,000 for a 25 foot center console? Ummm, okay. For $79000 you can do a lot better if you just look around. You are likely looking at least one engine replacement, all the electronics, plausibly a fuel tank, the entire air conditioning system before you even think about putting it in the water. It is not a boat 'in good condition' or even close. It is closer to the scrapyard. The engines may be little more than 'rebuilt parts' material. You might do better scrapping it for parts.

And that does not include structural repairs to accommodate the other repairs or mold/mildew remediation. You could rehab it but most people would ask 'why?' The entire interior needs to be torn apart. There is cottage industry that guts hulls and rebuilds from the shell up to modern specs. Other than being cut up for factory refurbished parts, the best use for this boat is an architecture rebuild, you are really buying a hull, everything else is garbage/salvage.
79 g's then sink in another 30 g's to get it sea worthy and dependable. with new electronics as well. 100 of man hours to get it looking great.. No way in hell man
Nice vid....constructive criticism, the waving of the hand in front of the camera is annoying, may just be me, keep up the interesting content.

I think what your calling a trunk is a lazaret?
@Jethrosgarage
12 күн бұрын
The lazzarette is always the aft most compartment where the rudders are located on a vessel. That trunk is just a trunk. Now this boat doesn't really have a separate lazzarette from the engine room.
They are 14.11 beam I transport those boats all the time and heavy also
really like your content however your hand is annoying enough that I couldn't get beyond 1/2 way through
Hi. I enjoyed the very thorough tour. Most of them skim so fast you don’t really get the full value. Thanks
Nothings up !
All those seats in the cockpit it's very crowded I would get rid of half of them
Cheap for a reason, good luck on your future loss!
Want to dive into a 63 Ocean SuperSport?
The beer cans and extra oil really say a lot about this boat…
80k crap shoot ,B.O.A.T Bust Out Another Thousand, this case several thousand
The twin tiki dancers are worth 40k
Turttle wax and STP gas treatment . You should be good to go !
I’m interested. I’ll pay your $79k if you cover shipping costs.

Any restoration or just talking?
overpriced, its alm 30years old..one engine old, no gen lot of rubber and valves look like need change, it 40ft not 46ft, even in the model name 4000expresss 40ft, pulpit and wood platform dont make it a genuine 46 , the amount of work needed on the deck gelcoat is $$$$$$$$ id say it sells for 55-60

CLOSE, I WAS THINKING 48 TO 50K.
BEING A RETIRED MK COASTIE WAY TO MUCH MONEY FOR THE WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE, THAT'S ALL.
That is a $25k boat max.
@Tman317

Hardly. $79k seems reasonable for a 46ft, 15ft beam boat. Hell, a little old Sea Ray deck boat with a 4.3 goes for $25k easily!

@jerseyfreshfishing6613 Some people, yes, but not all. And yes, I own a Sea Ray Sundancerr, not a silly deck boat.
Your price is ridiculous and you know it.
Ok... I'm trying to be respectful...but I agree with an earlier response...that the hand waving gets annoying...I like the content...but then when you went to fast forward of the interior...as if unimportant...was dizzying... I had to stop watching...BUT...I do want to see & hear details... keep on truckin'...
I’ll offer 35k
Turf them motors ... I've got the 8.9 electronic version in my truck (Freightliner single axle 4x4) and I'm on my 3rd , only 275,000 km into the truck ... Cummins did a thing when the EPA took over back in 2007 ... Pure crap ever since 🤷🏻 Got 117,000 out of the first set of cams, and at 265,000 I washed out 3 cylinders, and burned a hole in the 4th 🤦🏻
Put something new on
