I always asked myself what would be if Vilanova would stay healthy and Messi didn't get his injuries in 2013, which cost him his pace and explosivness. Messi 11/12(club season) had a non penalty goal ratio of 88mins. Messi 12/13 scored a non penalty goal every 74 mins and before his first injury against Psg every 73mins(by far the best season in terms of goalscoring in the modern era). For a comparison: Ronaldos best was a non penalty goal every 97mins. I think he still could improve and reached an even higher peak than he had from 11/12-12/13. It's an unpopular opinion but I think this stopped Messi and we never saw the "real" peak of him

In my opinion if Vilanova never got the cancer and Messi was completely healthy those days Barcelona would've won the UCL in 2013 and Messi would've broken his goals record from the previous season. I also think that Messi never showed the true peak of his powers because of injury which made him adapt his game to become a different player focusing more on being a playmaker and I think that with Vilanova Barcelona would've won more UCL titles in the Messi era.

His dribbling and pace was best in 2010 Passing 2015 Goalscoring 2012 Most complete 2019

Man just imagine being 24 25 years old and having won 4 ballon d ors in a row and everything with the club multiple times, is just madness. Messi could have retired with 25 and you could argue that he is still the best ever, dude went to win more and more and WC of course, hope he gets his 8th ballon d or, there is a lot of haters trying to fix this award for haaland, but if Messi doesnt win it its a shame.

Haaland has an excellent shout for it, but people value the WC so highly that it's unlikely that he will win it.

Since Messi won the WC it looks like the WC isnt that important. Thats what greatness does, makes haters appear and talk trash about everything Messi does. There are people listed as the greatest footballers ever JUST beacuse they performed well during 7 games in a WC. Cannavaro won the ballon d or cause of the 2006 WC, Nazario scored less than 21 goals during 2002 season but 8 of those came in the WC and he won it, Zidane scored two goals in the final of 1998 and won the ballon d or, Stoichkov was goalscorer of 1994 WC and lead Bulgaria to semis and won the ballon d or. Whoever performs well in the WC wins the award. 2010 and 2014 are exeptions beacuse messi in 2010 was being compared to Maradona but with the goalscoring stats of Pele or Gerd Muller. And 2014 Ronaldo scored 17 goals in the UCL and more than 60 in the season as a winger. @@insouciantFox

To be honest he should have went for a spot where he could atleast assist messi by positioning himself to where he could get a good opportunity when it was too much for messi.

I remember watching this one with my dad, trying to convince him to become a Messi fan (I was about 14 and my Dad is not much into football but wanted to spend time with me). Safe to say i succeeded, i mean how can you not be after seeing him run the entire length of the field against opposition like that? Even my dad was outraged by that particular display, and of course the awesome hattrick.

This is one of those games where he is at his best. Most/all games he plays good. Alot of times he plays great. A number of times he plays exceptional. Then there's the select group of performances that will likely never be matched.
