Iroh's line about Zuko needing rest he also said in the first episode. In that episode Zuko ignored him but this time he listened. Zuko has grown a bit and more to come.

Yue is such an underrated character. People only talk about her in relation to Sokka and it makes me kinda sad, because she's so much more than that. No one told her to give her life to save the Northern Water Tribe. She chose to in spite of everyone's protests.

The black fish is the Ocean Spirit, that is the big blue creature aang combined with and the one that took Jhao. The white fish that was killed was the Moon Spirit, Yuh gave her life and became the new Moon Spirit.

Plus, while the moon was gone, if you notice, all Aang ever does is push. The moon spirit was the pull and, even though, Aang is really powerful he cannot go against what was broken. He never pulls the water. He can only push.

Pakku is the water bender shown in silhouette in the intro and Zuko's sister (Azula) is the fire bender.

Yay I can't wait for Book 2 reactions 🎉 as much as I love Book 1, I think the show gets even better from now on

The death toll of this episode was Yue, Zaio (idk how to spell his name) Han, who Yue was supposed to Marry, and most of the fire navy fleet as well as water tribe warriors and civilians. Really good finale, book 2 is my personal favorite but book 3 has my favorite episode so hope you enjoy the rest of the series it’s gonna be a wild ride

Also Zukos crew was in the fleet attacking the North Pole so they probably died in that battle when sang destroyed the fleet.

@@jonasfrangella3308 Well, the fleet wasn't completely destroyed, we saw plenty of ships backing away from the Ocean Spirit just before it returned to the pond. So it's possible they lived~ Especially if Zhao didn't want to risk actually using them in combat, but just wanted them out of Zuko's hands. He could have left them in the rear of the fleet.

@@rahulmenon9530 he was thrown into the water in one of the coldest places on earth. He'd have to have swam back and somehow gotten into the city within just a few minutes.

I don’t want to spoil too much but Zuko has one of the best character arcs I’ve ever seen in fiction, from book 1 all the way to book 3. Book 1 is where you gain an understanding of his motivation and past. Book 2 is where you really start to empathize and root for him. Book 3 is where you really start to admire and respect him. He’s an incredibly complex character with numerous flaws just like all of us. But keep in mind that Zuko’s arc is just one of many that are fleshed out beautifully and simultaneously in the show.

The giant water koi godzilla Aang was in wasn't just the power of the Avatar but also the Ocean spirit (that's whey the fish's eyes were glowing before they created it).

I give book 1 an 8.5 too it has some amazing moments and it's the start of a legend it's iconic and nostalgic but because it's the first there are some shaky moments because it's unpolished bit it only gets better from here I'm really enjoying your reactions

In the end, Zhao couldn’t swallow his pride, so instead he swallowed a ton of water.

Feel like this was less of aang going avatar state as usual and more so the ocean spirit literally using his body as vessel to screw the fire nation personally. Like roku that one time in the temple

Really enjoying your opinions! For a moment there, I thought you said "book 3 villain will be the Fatherlord". I'm glad somebody points out how good the music is. Personally, I think book 3 is the best, especially the second half of it, but many fans think book 2 is the best. But hardly anyone thinks book1 is the best. So you are past the worst of it. 😃

Koi-dzilla is ocean spirit use aang body's, they only push the water because the pull is moon spirit.

I don't use this word lightly, but this was epic to see for the first time on TV in 2005. It still gives me chills!

Katara couldn't heal the Moon Spirit (La, 'the Pull', or Yin, 'the Light') because there's no waterbending without the Moon. Waterbending was *not* weakened: it just was no more. It ceased to exist when the Moon died. You can also noticed how when the Ocean Spirit (Tui, 'the Push' pronounced 'Tway', or Yang, 'the Dark') possessed Aang to exact revenge on their slain consort, they could only Push the water and not Pull it, because the Pull, that is the Moon, was dead. Noticed also how the Ocean had no waves once the Moon was felled. But the Fire Nation would suffer the consequences quite fast as their homeland is a chain of volcanic islands, hadn't Tui stopped when they saw the Moom was back. Notice also that when the Moon was dead, everything was grey except for Yue's eyes; and just before the Moon comes back we cut away from Aang/Tui looking towards the fleet; but when we cut back to Aang/Tui it's the same shot, but the fleet is no more, because every single one of them has been wiped out by the Avatar's might. A masterpiece of subtle and comprehensive storytelling

The ocean spirit would litterally have destroyed the world without the moon spirit to hold it back.

Don’t know if anyone else has pointed this out yet, the spirit that aang fused with was the ocean spirit, aka push. He literally only pushed water while carrying out that assault. :)

Book 1 is an amazing world builder but book 2 and 3 are all about that action, it seriously only gets better from here

Aang didn't kill Zhao. I don't know if you guys noticed or not, but the ocean spirit was in control of that whole rampage. Once it sees the moon is back, the ocean spirit sets Aang down on the outer wall and then takes Zhao with it beneath the water. It's a minor detail in the grand scheme, but there's a very strong through-line with this series of Aang being a pacifist who believes all life is sacred. It's one of the reasons he's so terrified of the power he wields in the Avatar State while he can't control it. I think the whole ending fight here is meant to be equal parts awesome, horrifying, and sad.

Everyone forgets about the Ocean Spirit... it did a lot of work... I'm pretty sure it was in control, not Aang...

Love Master Pakku and the water benders fight scene

Everyone always asks why katara didn’t heal the fish but she can’t without the moon they have no bending plus if you think about it (this is now my opinion) the moon is the more tame of the two the ocean pushes and the ocean pulls it back to create balance that’s why the spirit fish just went on a rage filled killing spree. So I think the healing power probably came from the moon anyway especially since Yue got her life from the moon not the ocean.

The series only gets better from here. I'd rate Book 1, a 9/10 with it increasing by 0.5, every Book from now on. Despite it being not as action packed, the world building, introduction to characters and development were all S Tier. I'm excited to see you react to Book 2, as there are so many iconic lines, episodes and characters.

Most people agree, what book 1 lacks, is storytelling. There is plenty of good worldbuilding, character development, and action scenes. The story, outside of a handful of standout episodes (7&8,12,13,19&20 to be specific), it really just boils down to: Gaang flys around from village to village, things happen, Zuko and or Zhao probably shows up and destroys the place, and then the episode ends. The finale of book 1 is where the quality of the show steps WAY up. From here on out, EVERY episode (arguable) will have this level of quality. Book 2 blows book 1 out of the WATER... and book 3 stomps and buries book 2 in the 6 foot deep into the EARTH. I've always put it like this Book 1 is a good show, with GREAT episodes. Book 2 is a GREAT show, with LEGENDARY episodes. Book 3 is the absolute GOAT. Legendary from start to finish, and what really cements this show as the best animated TV series of all time.

When comparing book 1 vs. 2 and 3. Book 1 is a 6. Alone, it's an 9

Book 2 rocks

Book 1 is an 8/10, book 2 is a 9.5/10, book 3 is a 9/10 Book 1 has problems with too episodic formats and a lot of the bulk feels like it could be skipped. though every single episode in the season does have a payoff later on in the show. Book 2 is nearly perfect, it starts off decent, goes a bit down and reaches a low point at "avatar day" (episode 5 i think) but then ramps up to perfection untill the end of the season! Book 3 Starts off good but from episode 2 it starts to feel fillery once again, and the first half of season 3 is just a bit underwhelming after a perfect end of season 2. but the second half of season three is on par if not better than season 2 so it makes up for its shortcommings at the start

Book 1 is considered the weakest of the three seasons, though honestly that was probably always going to be the case. Book 1 was an establishing series: setting up the world, history, politics, characters, and the status quo. Books 2 and 3, however, is when the show gets to mess with the status quo and thus change the world, the characters and their relationships on their heads. The rest of the series would not be nearly as impactful without thoroughly establishing who these characters, what they mean to each other, and how they view the world around them. Also, the shiwrunners were also using Book 1 as sort of a test to see how much they could get away with, story-wise, and were still trying to find their feet while being sure to abide by the restrictions and expectations set by the producing channel, Nickelodeon. But yeah, episodes 18-20 were just a taste of what the show would become, and Book 2 is where the show really hits its stride and shines.

As good as book 1 is its The worst book by a landslide which dosent mean its bad uts just the other books are so much better written

Book 1 for me is the weakest season, but your reaction is an easy 10/10.
