Exactly! My dads a plumber and I’ve helped him on side jobs for many years. He’s taught me how to thread gas lines, install hot water tanks, toilets, sinks, run new waterlines, repair leaks, etc.… I still can’t plumb. If you were to send me on my own I’d be at a loss planning what materials I’d need, how to overcome unique obstacles that you experience with each job, remembering building codes, etc. I’ve had friends say plumbing is easy… no it’s not. Just cuz you installed a toilet once doesn’t make you a plumber. Fun fact: my dad has rarely had to deal with poop on a job. From what Ive experienced plumbing is a diverse trade and it would be easy to avoid jobs involving poop.

Anyone can do plumbing IF it wasn't so protected for profit. The North American market screwed itself by making heat pumps and tankless water heaters these products that were mysterious and EXPENSIVE to install and maintain in favour of junk 50's technology like box window AC units and massive gas or electric tank water heaters. Only recently when the eco-terrorists started screaming that the sky is falling did heat pumps and tankless water heaters become fashionable for plumbers to work with albeit with stupid high prices, at least in Canada.
