Inline Skating in Japan - On the search for Japan's Best Skatepark

Japan is known for its manufacturing of vehicles, amazing food, Mt Fuji, square watermelons, crowded cities, beautiful castles, advanced vending machines and of course Mario Cart.
Before COVID-19 shut down all international travel, I was lucky enough to travel to Japan for a couple of weeks with an open schedule.
I wanted to find the best skatepark in Japan and I was willing to travel the length of the country to discover a hidden gem.
I did all my research online before I left, I searched the web for hours looking for skateparks, there isn’t a great directory where you can find all the skateparks in Japan so I had to reach out to skaters on instagram and twitter to find out where they skated.
I flew into Narita airport near Tokyo I stayed in a hotel that was close to the Yamanote Line - Pro Tip, if you stay in Tokyo, you want to be near this train line.
It was the middle of August and it was extremely hot, 37 Degree Celceus most days but being an Aussie from Brisbane this didn’t worry me too much.
I decided to hit up the local parks in Tokyo first. I had to jump on a few connecting trains, smashed a banana latte from the vending machine, strapped on my skates and headed a couple of klms east to Trinity skatepark using my phone for directions.
The skatepark had a little skate shop and even sold Inline skating gear, which was cool to see.
I thought because it was an indoor skatepark, that it would be cool but that was not the case. The ramps were covered in a white surface that is extremely hot on your wheels and my wheels exploded.
I had some backup wheels so popped them on and finished my skate.
There was a vending machine outside of the park that I visited many times to try and hydrate myself.
I couldn’t bear the heat anymore. My head was thumping so I called it a day.

I stay in Osaka when I visit Japan, and G-skate is one of the best skate parks in the world. I was only there once, and I didn't have nearly the aggressive experience as I do now, but man, it was incredible. Also in Osaka is a sport/skate shop called Spotaka, at Big Step in America Town. Small indoor park, some decent features, but the floor was so slick, it was difficult to get any stride or speed. I was the only inline skater there, but plenty of cool skateboarders. One of my favorite memories was just cruising around the alleys of Tokyo at night. My wife and I stayed in Asakusa, so I was a short jaunt from the waterfront, with Tokyo tower across the river. Another youtuber, Skrap, put out a video doing some urban skating in those same alleys and sidewalks shortly after I was there... Good times. Kyoto is another great city for urban night skating. I miss skating in Japan so much...

@@JoeStuartAU too many rules like you said but yea. You can drink inside but it has to be a sealed bottle and you can't eat in there.. skates off outside is a pain if you need to go to the toilet. At least they allow wax, some parks don't and that sucks worse. They rebuilt the metal side of Yokohama skatepark too. So check that out when you come back.

Great vid! I recently ordered a skate bag from xtremeinn so no tetris for me. I just need to learn some dialect and save up for a trip post-covid. Could you please inform me of some of their insta/twitter/youtubes? I plan to visit Osaka and Akiba for 1-2weeks. Everyone knows the Yasutokos and Yuto but I'm referring to non-pros I can actually talk to, maybe meet up with, learn spots. I will be there very briefly and mostly gaming/shopping/eating so I need to make the most of my skate days, knowing where to go.

You should go to Gskates - Eito Yasutoko was there and was very approachable. But also, the park was full of inline skaters who were cool. There are cool street spots around that area too if you are into street. I tried to skate with some people but the timing was off, it was very hot and no one was skating. Will have a look for some people you can try when you are there.

When I was there, I acted like a cyclist, and went where the bikes did. The only time interaction I had with any authorities was when I was skating a bit too close to Senso-Ji Temple. But the alleys around there were fun! Most street skateboarders practice their thing at night, less crowds.
