Thanks Pascal! Listening to our skates for noise at the landing is a good indication of smooth technique (no noise = good landing). Same in xc skiing, classic style, where we want ''quiet skies''!!

I just noticed that you have the same frames on your skates as mine ^_^ I was trying to practice landing with the front wheel first in today's training session, but I still find it quite challenging! I am still so used to landing flat, but I can feel that my skates would be better positioned if I could land with the front wheel first.

Zefiris Lansing flat is not bad also. As long as you are sure that it doesn’t land with the back first it’s good. Front wheels landing help’to get control for a slow soft landing which give more feeling for a good pressure.... in my opinion. It s cool you try to search as all this learning process will make skating even more interesting

Hello Pascal, Thanks for that information. But our Technic is the by inline Skate the same as by Ice skating. It means: last wheel first. Why is this wrong by Inline skate?

Hi Pascal. Can I get good form and good speed from a cross-training skate (100mm or 110mm) or do I really need a speed skating boot. Thinking of buying some skates, but near my house there is no track or good place to just speed skate so wondering if you have any recommendations regarding a more advanced-level cross-training skate.

you get quite surely more speed from a 100mm or a 110mm skate…. notice than 110mm 4X need a quite long frame which is not Always very easy to control. Most of easy speed can be reach on 3X125mm … powerslide world cup Trinity 3 wheels seems famous….but i need to know more detail about what kind of use you want to do ...do you want to race sometimes? or just training? mainly straight line , corner or both?

Thanks for reply. Just for training (no racing). We don't have tracks around here (I live near Nice) so I'll find empty parking lots in the evening or go to the Prom des Anglais! I guess I'm looking for the "best of both worlds" -- some speed but also ability to have a nice skate with the family. My main question is about the height of the boot -- can I get a "speed skate" feel with skates that come up my ankle higher than a traditional speed skate? I won't be doing huge distances, but mostly interval training and leg strength training. I love being on skates (play ice hockey!) so I want to use skates as a way to just work on overall fitness, etc.

superpug218 hi yes first make sure your setting of the frame is good. Check my video about set up the skate eventually. Then invest some time with basic drills like one leg slalom and simple one leg little jump (5cm is enought) to strength muscle around the ankle. It will really make your progress go much much faster ... Also depending if your shoes you can may be heat moldable them to make sure it give you support all around back and down malleolus

Hi Pascal, would be very nice if you can explain the right timing of the landing. I learned the timing of landing, that the push is almost done and than you land your skate. But when you look at many pro skaters, it seems that they land their skate way earlier. It seems that they land their skate after the bodyweight shifting is done. And after that, the push starts to the side, like you can see in your video at 3:52. Maybe you can do an extra video for the timing of the landing? Best regards Michael

Michael Santo yes landing is after weight transfert before end of the push... there is a moment both skate push on the ground ... very important timing ... may be vidéo about it soon :-)
