Such a great review. I have subscribed, have watched three older episodes and look forward to many more great video reviews. There is one big element of Cat. that you guys admitted to not remembering a rule. And this rule is SUCH a huge part of the game that I had to post this. When a countries' force pool increases, the player DOES choose which new types of units are "officially " added to the available builds. The Germans CAN decide to build all their submarines as early as possible in an effort to go "all out' against Britain. Or they can ignore the navel units and just focus on building a huge land army via choosing just men and airplanes. Also, deciding how many upgrade counters you wish to have available is a big choice. Should a country try to build as many infantry and single airplanes as possible to increase overall depth or choose to spent 2 build points per unit to build a smaller but much better army? How a country prepares for war is HUGE in this game. Once Total War breaks out, the game will end in just two turns. At that point, the die is cast and you go to war with the army you have.

Great nugget about using the playbook and intro scenario vs. reading the rulebook.

Great review guys. Thx! This seems to be somewhat a mixture of old Avalon Hill Diplomacy (not hat it was WW II per se, but that feel of diplomacy and politics+ 3rd Reich at Macro Level; which is certainly an interesting combination. I own a copy; but haven't had time to play it.

Really digging this format of an initial reaction, before a more detailed review. I’ve got this (along with Unconditional Surrender) winging its way out to me via the GMT Fall Sale. Looking forward to getting the game, and for your next video! God bless.

I could play Unconditional Surrender! almost endlessly. Such an easy system that does so much. It gives you good detail, whilst remaining playable. Sure it can be a long one, but it doesn't ever feel like a drag.

The play aids are very good, and in one turn you literally see basically every single mechanic. We also digest a hell of a lot of rules.

how does it play solo? is it as satisfying as USE?
@ThePlayersAid

Very good solo, indeed I would say it is excellent. The style of game is very different from USE (an actual hex and counter wargame). Cataclysm has much more of the economic and political stability to take care of.

The one thing I take away from all these excellent reviews, is that Alexander, should really ditch his dice! They never seem to go well for him! :p
