Hi, I really like the idea too! If you do more COINS, please consider doing one for Falling Sky: The Gallic Revolt Against Caesar. It would be great, even though among the ancients COINS, I believe you both ranked Pendragon above Falling Sky.

Got a copy of this game and the 2nd expansion at Christmas. Thank you for creating a tutorial! Is it absolutely necessary to have the 1st expansion in your opinion? I think it's on the p500 from got so it's on my radar but unless told otherwise it might just be a "nice to have".

The expansions are nice but not necessary. There is a lot to learn from in the base game. The Awakening expansion adds some very interesting new mechanics and creates an even deeper experience. The Forever War is more cards without a lot of new mechanics. Both are great.

Hi Grant! Thank you for this, it was great! Could I suggest doing additional segments about strategy, The Original Prognard did a really good one on Cuba Libre, he spoke about important areas, important cards and how to take actions, it really helped me understand the game and really opened up the COIN games for me. Other games for this series, as a suggestion for you, any COIN game (Andean Abyss or Falling Sky), Caesar Rome vs. Gaul, Time of Crisis. Keep it up!

I will probably do one on strategy as well. Thanks for the thought. As for future games, I am probably going to start with Liberty or Death from the COIN Series but I would see us doing a video on several games in the series. Time of Crisis would also be great to do.

You'll get there. While the COIN System itself is very approachable considering the hobby it's a part of, learning the game's winning rhythms can at first appear a little overwhelming. You've got the best one to learn the system, and because it's reasonably short, you can take advantage of learning through multiple plays. Remember, every faction has an entirely different path to achieve victory; start by focusing on the individual faction's winning conditions, then slowly develop a series of actions you find make it the easiest to realize those particular conditions. Edit: And never get too comfortable. It is, after all, based on the notoriously unfavorable conditions any real-world nation finds itself mired in when commiting to ANY counterinsurgency.

Play the game without the solo part until you know the rules for the base game, then add the solo rules. Setup the game, and walk through the 4 player game in the playbook. Then reset the game, and play all four sides by yourself. There will be lots of rules lookups, it will be painful, but one night's work is all it takes. Sleep on it, try it again, and you will find everything will 'click', although you will still feel lost strategy wise. Then add the solo rules. The solo experience is amazing, but only if you know the rules. Its worth the effort, as all the other COIN games will be easy, and you will wonder what all the fuss was about.

Every time I see a Labyrinth video I can tell how the presenter votes. GWOT is not a representation of left/right politics. BHO was criticized for excessive drone strikes, for example, and HRC was considered a hawk. A Trump led GOP ended up being quite soft in many foreign policy areas as well. Soft or Hard GWOT stance refers to the techniques used to fight the war on terror. Hard stance would use more aggressive actions, things like illegal funding of regime changes (like Iran Contra), covert actions, assassinations, illegal drone strikes, use of torture, ect. A soft stance would use diplomatic methods, coalition building, funding disruptions, ect to prosecute the war. A Hard stance is just more willing to break the rules - 'all is fair in love and war' type of thing. It has nothing to do with one side's willingness to prosecute the war. If you look at it in this light, you can see that the GWOT track is a 'popular opinion' track. How receptive is the American public to the use of torture to prevent another 911, or a nuke attack? You can see how Europe's opinion on that might differ from America's, and how beneficial it is if they align. Brilliant concept.
