    From BGG: The latest version of the Last Hundred Yards Series Living Rules, Charts, and Tables has been posted to the GMT LHY Module 1 page. These rules have been reorganized for ease of use. The Assault rules section was divided into two separate sections: Assault [10.5], which describes the procedures, and Assault Resolution [14.0]. The Recovery rule section [12.0] now follows the Fire Action section [11.0]. The Fire Resolution section [13.0] now precedes the Assault Resolution section.

    Great video! The suppression rules do account for multiple SADRM or MDRMS. So if you have 4 markers it would be -2 DRM due to suppression when shooting out.

  • @jona826
    @jona8262 жыл бұрын

    11:20 Maybe the rules changed since this video but suppression is now -1 per 2 applicable DRM markers rounded up, so 3-4 markers would penalise the suppressed unit's fire by -2 instead of -1.

    Great watching you guys analyze the great victory condition design and mechanics of this game like real GROGNARDS. Mike Denson's design is genius in a lot of ways, making this a real challenge to the ASL heads and L&L guys.

    BTW, in this video I show how to play an Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) scenario (using an ASL map) but with The last Hundred yards (LHY) pieces and rules (in this example I am playing the ASLSK #1 scenario S1 Retaking Vierville since it is pretty simple with no hills and just infantry with no heavy weapons, ordinance , or vehicles and such). kzread.info/dash/bejne/mIhq05prisWtpbw.html This way one can use many of all those many ASL scenarios out there as LHY scenarios (with some special scenario rules to make them work out). As such, the scenarios play out quite differently than when using ASL rules and I think more realistically as well as more streamlined in that there are far less phases and die rolls and such in the LHY versions but at the same time it keeps an ASDL flavor to them plus one can employ ASL rules as special scenario rules. For example I used the ASL ELR to assign the Casualty Differential Values (CDV) in LHY, the US with and ELR= 5 and the German with an ELR of 3 but I doubled that since the German is on the attack so I gave the US a 5 for their CDV and the German a 6. And since LHY does not have Orchards I treat those like Tree Lined Roads and fields like Smoke only not as high). And for the German 4-4-7 in ASL I assign that a range of 8 not 10 as is standard for the other German infantry units in LHY. So I am finding this is great fun to play these ASL scenarios as LHY ones! BTW, the video production quality is a bit bad in that I was having some technical problems with holding my camera and pointing it on my game table but the video may be good enough to convey the basic idea.

    Great review for a game that's worth exploring further. The system is solid, fun, and it's uniqueness allows The Last Hundred Yards to stand on its own as a compliment to other tactitcal games. I'm looking forward to expansions for this in the future.

    From the way you guys expressed your thoughts on this one, one can tell right off you both had fun. Thanks for the upload and time. Should do same with Fighting Formations, since Grant likes Combat Commander, either way it´s another one of the late Chads great games.

    looks good esp wrt: 1) combat commander limitation on combined arms is a turn-off for me, further, 2) glad it doesn't use the over-popular chit draw system people go over the moon for....! 3) not sure suppression should be automatic as described, ASL uses pin results, perhaps not enough of them one might argue... 4) NOT every other game uses one die to resolve results, ASL uses 2 dice for nearly every attack and provides a normal distribution rather than a linear one, which I think is superior for tactical games...5) sounds less than ASL but if this is superior to LnL tactical, though, it's worth looking at! thanks for video -- good job guys.

    Marc Hanna I prefer two dice as well. Once you realize the “rule of 7” and you see how well designed the outcomes are in ASL I really prefer it over any other dice system I have tried.

    Automatic suppression sounds interesting - the ruleset "Retro" KIND of has this (units trying to enter the FOF of an automatic weapon have to make a "saving throw" to move through it). Made solitaire (or play-by-e-mail) do-able.

    , it’s certainly very different to ASL & LnL Tactical. In my view it’s better than both. I don’t play Combat Commander, due to lack of AFVs. I’ve tried OST, Conflict of Heroes and BoB. LHY and BoB are the only ones I’ve kept and play now.

    Thanks for the review. I really enjoy your content. Any reason why you guys haven’t reviewed/played ASL yet? I am really interested in your take on it since it’s revered by so many people. I just started working my way through ASL starter kit #1 and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

    Nice video but to point out that in actual table too. wargaming rather than gaming we also use time, planning, doctrine,, casualties as major factors in determining outcomes. Moreover friction and the fact that this is not opposed play. but players are under the test and it is in part driven by the umpire. We also use chess clocks to create the same effect and this is referred to as pressure testing so it’s more about what was learnt

    This game is a lot of fun, and is easily soloable since there aren't any cards to worry about. Be sure to try the first tank mission (5 I believe) which is a blast, no pun intended. Plays fast and I think it's an excellent change of pace from the intro infantry only missions.

    Hi, this is listed as a minimum 2 player game. I see you say it’s soloable. Have you played it as such then as I always find it difficult to find a partner. If you have how did you find it playing it that way and what did you have to adapt to play it that way. Cheers for any reply.

    Some missions have units completely hidden, their positions secretly written on paper, so these are harder to do solo. I have yet to devise a way to handle this solo other than just pretending the side I'm playing doesn't know where the enemy occupied hexes are.

    thumbs down on Root, a cartoonish Meeplish fantasy game. I'm sure it's a fine game, but it's not the right genre because I'm hoping these guys stick with wargames. By the way all you have to do is search on their youtube channel for Undaunted Normandy and watch instead of asking people if they liked it or not, right?

Like you I am more into the tactical games , the strategic does not really jump out to me and I prefer solo. the two of you remind me of Fry and Laurie (kzread.info/dash/bejne/pWiWstWAo7GtmZc.html) As I always say you both have a great rapport and I love the streams. "The Last Hundred Yards" : I thought this was going to be a simulationist game about what it's like to be walking home, and really, really, really, need the toilet, and then that suddenly amplified urgency when you can see your house, but there's still 100 yards to go.
