The shot showing the sun and moon tracking overhead was icing on the timelapse cake. There is something absolutely hypnotising about seeing the normally unseen at speed. Big thanks for your efforts.
Congrats on your new venture! Thx for answering several questions I have. Can't wait to see what's next!
All the gear…no idea…love it! Love that you are doing cucumbers, I was just about to start some myself.
I love your channel and your personality! Thanks for all the knowledge shared :)
AF Cultures sound awesome. The new logo looks bloody good mate🍺🍺
So funny man,but it makes sense,All the gear-No idea. also, cool to see the spider living in there too !
Thanks Hoocho for making these videos I am having so much success thanks to you I am using the bato buckts for cucumbers
welcome to your new channel and all the best wishes
man keep up with these videos they are amazing and in this day and age they are very useful if you don’t want to just eat pesticides and chemicals❤❤
Love your stuff, especially the eucalyptus in the garden. I am consistently amazed how it is never winter where you are. You brighten my morning up no end, coffee and a new Hoocho, perfect.

Love your comment 😂
Dear Hoochos, Watching all your experiences with different methods of growing plants I would like to suggest to combine the Kratky method with the Root Excluder device to prevent roots from blocking the valve. If you attach the root excluder outside the Kratky container and the valve feeds the liquid to the bottom of the container the roots will have a harder time reaching and obstructing the floating valve. I hope that this will make any sense to you. Thanks for your wonderful content and awesome techniques that you share with us.
This was fantastic!! I knew the smaller hole and the one with the jiffy pellet without anything holding it would grow the best because that is exactly how I grow mine indoors and actually I don’t even use a jiffy pellet I just use a cotton ball like you showed in one other video and once the seed germinated and grew the cotton ball almost disappeared with the roots I’m sure it provided a bit of benefit as it grew in the deep water container but I grow exclusively indoors and I manually refill the 60litre tote and currently I have three cucumber plants growing in it. I’m sure once they begin to put on cucumbers I will be refilling often but so far haven’t had to add any water. I also use a bubbler or an air stone I guess is the correct terminology so that when I do top up the nutrient rich water it doesn’t harm the plant. Love seeing those lapse time of how the roots grow its phenomenal to watch! Talk about eye candy for a veggie grower!! 😂🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦

How do you hold up the cotton ball? @Hoocho the new videos on less expensive setups are great, and more tips on reusable/low cost methods for securing the seedlings in place would be very helpful (ie. Hydroton or net pot alternatives with cotton or vermiculite & perlite sprouted plants...I remember the pucks but haven't seen them in action with Kratky method yet)
A farm tour would be awesome. Lots of critters you got there!
Nice 1 Mr Hoocho. The kranky cam was excellent additional to the normal grow cam.

@Hoo_cho I went to the post office and they said they don`t do telegrams anymore. I can send you a postcard if you prefer?
En Español. Saludos,.
My cucumbers did extremely well in a 5 gal bucket. But I have to add almost a gallon a day by the time the vine became rather prolific. I lost count at around 22 fruits from one plant. However, I’m not sure what causes the plant to go belly up almost overnight with fruits of various stages still on the vine. My guess is lack of 02 , next I will try a bigger 27 gal tub with the addition of 2 air stones. Unlike your new slogan, I don’t have “all” the gear, yet still no idea.haha Trial and error. Thanks for a great channel!
Pls continue including more lil' teasers from your new channel. Still can't tell what it's about yet.
I hadn’t heard of plant tissue culture before this, just looked it up, seems super interesting! When I saw your lab set up I was thinking mycology/mushroom production as it reminded me of my own set up. Keen to learn more about the tissue culture though, never worked with plants in the lab, only fungi. Excited to see what you do.

This is actually the reason I set up the lab on the other channel... The DIY laminar flow hood leads into multiple hobbies.... Mycology, tissue culture... anything sterile... A lot of science. Which is what I'm very excited for.

This sounds amazing
I do a manual version of this. I have buckets with a small hole in the side that sets the level. Depending on the plant, 2-4 inches below the net cup. I fill up to the drain hole everyday. It's so much easier than trying to top up Kratky with a heavy plant on the lid lol. Works great and I see the floating matt of roots like you showed.

Stupid question. Do you actually fill it with a nutrient mixture or just straight water.

Wow thanks for the video!! I'm also doing this at home I'm using masterblend tomato formula and the cucumbers look great :D I use the same proportion used with tomatoes too. Do you know how many litres of water have been used for each plant, approximately? Thanks for all!!
Great experiment from a fellow Aussie! You must be up north to be growing cukes in April/May? I do kratky too, but I just start out with a 200L drum using Manutec hydroponic solution (one $12 pack makes 350L). No need to top up water, as 200L is usually enough for the season 👍 There's a YT Short I've uploaded of my kratky green beans last season. Just **SUBSCRIBED** to Hoocho!
great slogan mate. ha ha All the gear, No idea. fits alot of novices around.
Hi Hooch😊 Could you please show us how to grow a CBD plant with this method. Thanks man keep doing what you are.🎉
are you able to some experiments with water timing growth for towers what is the best water cycle also bioponics making your own natural nutrients to grow plants
How's the flavor compared to soil grown home garden plants? Compared to supermarket commercially grown versions? Have you experimented with added minerals to your nutrient blends for the purpose of flaver enhancement?
Work how do you keep rain from diluting the nutrients solution?
TC!!🤘
What was the total volume of nutrient solution that you think the cucumber plant used during its growth?
Is your top or plain or nutrient water? If I can’t have the auto top up with nutrient water, then what’s the best method?
I just checked kratky system (styrofoam box from the fish market) and it needs filling. I have some float valves but I want to spread them through a couple
I use a 40 gallon (about 160 liter) garbage can. You can leave it alone for a week or more at a time and top it off when you feel, leaving plenty of space for air roots. Cucumbers grow like wildfire.
Love the music you use on your time lapses. Love your vids. Cheers!
Man that's a huge growth. How long did the cucumbers grow?. I mean in both time and length.
Do all your plants run of the same reservoir? Do you add any other nutrients to the pots ? What nutrients do you need, maybe a new nutrient video?
Hi Sir, Have a nice day 🌼 Have you ever grown blackberries with hydroponics? Can you give me some tips 🫡🌱 I'm excited about this but I need some help (Does it require special LED lights to grow? Or can it grow from sunlight that's slightly blocked by clear plastic?) (Also, how alkaline should the water be? What are the types of nutrients? What is required for a healthy plant? And where can I buy it from?) And thank you very much for your efforts 🌸 Keep going creative hero 💪

He has a video from 2 yrs ago on root veggies where he actually planted 2 raspberry bushes as well. I think they'd be similar, but it was a rain gutter and pot build, not Kratky
Are you finding that the skewers are rotting and then losing your support mechanism?
What's the song during the timelapse?
Hey hoocho, my local scrap metal recycler sells used food grade steel 55 gallon barrels for $10 each including lid. $5 for plastic. Do you see any reason I couldn't do kratky without float valves with those?
Where can I find the data about how much water, light and nutrients each plant type needs throughout their life cycle?
Is that a tissue culture lab??
tissue culture? lets goooooo
I topped my cucumber and Tomato with out testing the water I started with 15 Gal 1.6 EC and added 5 gal 1.6 EC. The next feeding I noticed some strange lead wilt. I tested EC and it was 4 before adding water. I ended up just adding water do you see this too? Drinking more than they absorb Nutrient. My cucumber seemed to almost lol like it was dying. I will say also add air to water more like DWC method.

Normal, b/c they perspire so much in the heat.
Buddy, have you thought about burying the buckets the soil will make an isolation for the root then lift the chance of survival oh the plants
That only needs a bucket like a 20 litre.. one the up side it only needs one float valve
The only way to keep the roots away from float valve is to have a dedicated float bucket then attach pipes between
If the roots are focussed on the surface, that implies that if you trust the float valve, you don't need large water storage, just wide. In theory this could be done with smaller volume, thus cheaper, containers
@Hoocho

The reason I like large volumes of water is the stability of temperature, large surface areas on small bodies of water are problematic due to the sensitivity to temperature change

A valid concern, but maybe perhaps not a universal one. Geography, climate, indoors vs outdoors, etc. make it a choice to be weighed up rather than a rule. Not a critique of what you've done being right for you, but more theory-crafting for other use cases. One I'm thinking of, to be explicit, is a current shelf of indoor mason jar based basil & peppers kratky and replacing it with a long, wide, but no more shallow, tote with a singular, maintained water level. What I had up to now was individual water levels for different plants at different stages in their life cycle. But the watering is getting out of hand on an individual basis. So if next season it was a low digit number of controlled totes, technically the surface ares of the water goes *down* than up.
Plant tissue culture eh? Well, Let's see what kind of a nut job my kids and grandkids think I am after jabbering on about what this is all about. Keep it up mate from the USA. I sure enjoy the rabbit trails with a reason you go chasing.😀
BIG DOG! Sorry I haven't been around to post dumb shit on your new videos! I'm back now from a rather large holiday and now I'll get back to it! Looking forward to your new channel too. I'll be sure to shit post on that too

Sassy!
It's pure luck that those roots didn't totally plug up or stop your float system. I don't know why you have such an aversion to controller buckets. Plus, I think it would be alot better to have several inches of air roots.
