Same but I'm 50. Uncomfortable humour like that between my friends and I is common. There are people that still believe that wearing a tampon takes away your virginity or that it’s dirty like can we not further perpetuate that?

It was so hilarious that James Charles wrote in his “apology” tweet regarding Alicia Keys starting a brand, “ that anyone should be able to secure their bag”. I sure that that was her first thought! Never mind that she already had more than she needs. Robert said it the best, this BOY James Charles.

Yeah I’m with you on that Tampax tweet. I started my period when I was 10 years old. I didn’t use tampons (still don’t) but many young girls who started pre-teen like I did do use them. It’s just not appropriate. Plus it ties into the implication that periods are inherently sexual. No, they’re a natural biological process that takes place with or without sex. Maybe I’m prudish too but it’s just icky and totally unnecessary. It comes off as “brand trying to be COOL and EDGY” and it’s just not it…

Was around 10 or 11 when i got mine aswell and switched over to tampons pretty early on. Could be a sensory issue but i genuinely cannot stand pads, always hated them so tampons or cups all the way (but to each their own and all). From day one I have never had a single even remotely sexual thought about tampons because they're not sexual! I dont consider myself a prude but 100% agree, its not appropriate considering the whole range of people who may use them.

Tampax as a brand are just unhinged. Instead if constantly trying to jump on whatever bandwagon is popular, they should focus on telling women how their products make periods marginally less impactful on our daily lives. Not smart ass tweets trying to be clever. This was just icky.

I’m so thrilled that you decided not to insert your opinion on the Tampax tweet. I’ve found that a lot of cis gay men feel it’s their right to discuss AFAB and women’s issues that aren’t in their lane. I expected nothing less from you, of course, you’re absolutely amazing, but I still want to give you the credit you deserve. It was a weird tweet and I think your breakdown of it being sexualized as something that very young people (and also ace people) experience was the wrong direction for them to go in.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to put my disgust into words but I think you’ve nailed it. For me, it’s the fact that their minds even went there in the first place just creeps me out. It would be like a brand sexualizing those cups men wear for sports… just inappropriate and gross. Not to mention, I feel the least sexy when I’m on my period. So for the brand to actually tweet “😏😏 we’re inside them” is so creepy and disgusting. And I’m not a prude at all and can have a twisted sense of humor, but I just don’t understand how people find it funny.

The entire episode was on counterfeit makeup, not on the "KZread makeup community" or any such nonsense, so Marlena was exactly the right person to use as an interview, since she was a brand founder and would have that kind of insider info, wtf would James have to contribute to that? But ofc he thinks he knows more than anyone else and immediately heard Netflix and makeup and felt like he was being excluded and got offended and started insulting her.

@@weirdhousewivesclub Right! Marlena, thank you! I could not for the life of me remember the name or the brand, i just knew it was one of the big ones. Say what you want about Marlena or her brand (cant remember if there were any scandals involving her, just gonna assume people have opinions) but she really does seem like one of the best people to get that perspective from. Like you said, she's BEEN THERE. She's seen the highs and lows of the industry. I can imagine she's likely seen the effects of how counterfeiting can affect brands and had to deal with her products being counterfeited countless times. James, and most of the influencers that came up through youtube and instagram, dont have that experience or insight. Heck, most of them arent even MUAs! So the thought of asking them is just absurd. Maybe if there was a small part on the responsibilities you have, as an influencer, to not promote counterfeits to your audience or if counterfeit makeup is a big thing among beauty influencers. However, that would require them to actually give a shit about said responsibilities or their audience in general which i can give a whole list of names, James' included, that seem incapable of doing so.
