Indigenous People Travel Across Brazil for a Sports Competition | SLICE | FULL DOCUMENTARY

Once a year, an Olympic flame is lit in Brazil announcing the opening of the Indigenous Games, the Games of the Amazon. This year, the event takes place in Porto Seguro, with 800 athletes from 30 different indigenous groups competing in traditional sports such as spear throwing, archery, and pirogue racing.
Meet the Matis people, also called the Jaguar Men for their cat adornments, who travel 6000 kilometers across Brazil to give a blowpipe demonstration and participate in a bow and arrow competition. More than just a sports event, this trip will be the opportunity for them to leave their village and see the ocean for the first time.

From native American prospective, we are so similar to our brothers and sisters in Brazil. The colors red, black, white and yellow feathers they use, to us these colors represent our four sacred colors of man, white, red, yellow and black. Represents who we are as a human race.

Lucky people. I grew up being a patriotic American but it's become obvious the Europeans ruined all of North America. I see everyone returning to this better way of life at some point.

@@Rick_Riff The same here! I am half native Brazilian from the Karaja Tribe. I'm so proud of my backgrounds, my people, culture, history & resistance. I'm also half European - Portuguese from my mother's side. I'm also African - Angola, Egypt and Cabo Verde from my father's side. I am a mix of 3 continents.

"The cross is the spirit of extermination" Wise words. I couldn't agree more. Fascinating people. I hope these games does not affect them much, and they keep their culture & traditions pure.

I think that is part of the reason they compete in these games is to show their pride and resilience against "civilization" Most Indigenous people are fighting for one reason or another to maintain their cultural beliefs, practices, and the right to live as their ancestors lived. Parts of their lives are being watered down for civilization, for instance, wearing clothing. I have seen other documentaries where Indigenous people in parts of the Rainforest have protected that area and their lives by taking another person's life. That is how serious they are about keeping their way of life, their lands, and their customs.

Each to their own, as an indigenous native of Aotearoa aka ,New Zealand its not the Cross that exterminates its ignorance and those mainstream churches that used the Cross to further their own disgusting hidden agendas. Jesus was and is a very kind man! Unnatural to be like that in his day and still today. Of course, his message in this world will be sabotaged by religious fanaticism trotting out a twisted misinformed devil induced lifestyle in the name of God. For me the Cross is freedom and life abundant.

I think they were meaning they did not eat much meat during the games. If you think about it a heavy meal would make them feel like they are weighed down and lethargic.
