Indianapolis Mayor's MLS Ambition: Implications for Indy Elevens Future

In this video I unpack the recent announcement from the Mayor of Indianapolis expressing interest in bringing an MLS team to the city, despite the presence of an established USL team. Join me as we dive into the implications of this proposal for the future of soccer in Indianapolis, including the impact on the planned stadium construction.

As an Eleven fan since their inception I am extremely frustrated by these rumors. Why wouldn’t someone interested in bringing MLS to my home state just try to do it with the Eleven? The Brickyard Battalion is one of best fanbases in the country and to reject them would be an absolute disgrace. I get that turning the Eleven into an MLS club would be difficult but alienating the BYB would be a lot worse in my opinion. Please, anyone from Indy, get your butts over to Carrol Stadium and support this club!!! Indy Eleven need us!!!

I would love to but I live in Kokomo and that’s well over a 2hour drive to sit at a pretty poor college stadium. Indy11 has grown on me a lot so has the new projected stadium. I’m with you! Why not merge Indy11( change the name of course to Indianapolis FC which is a way better name IMO ).

@@AmbushRL. Stop naming American Soccer teams like they're Spanish or English football clubs. Indianapolis FC is boring, Indy Eleven is an homage to Indianapolis's history.

It comes down to ROI. US soccer culture hasn’t been brought up the “right” way. Question - would you be interested in connecting? Love the content and I believe in what you’re doing. It would be cool to see if I’m a good fit for your project.

Regarding attendance, Indy gets 9-10k per game and the attendance would skyrocket with a new stadium.

Charlotte had struggled with attendance even before Charlotte FC was announced. Originally they were trying to put up a bid. Miami on the other hand took a hit once Inter Miami started than the hit got bigger once Messi joined Inter Miami.

I don’t go to 11 games due to distance( I live in northern Indiana and they play southern Indiana. ) and quality of the stadium they play at. But as a fan I’ve fallen in love with there new stadium! I think it’s by far the best looking soccer stadium in the US and my only worry is if they get the MLS expansion( which I would prefer over USL ) that the stadium the city would build would look horrible( I’m talking a turd would look like a 5 star meal compared to what the city would build. ) my other worry is what would happen to 11? Would they be the team and they just simply change the name from Indy eleven to Indianapolis FC? Or will they bring in and create an entire new team?

most likely it will be a completely new team since it's a new investor and Indy Elevens owner had no idea the city was going to make this major announcement.

Looking at what's going on, one issue is the USL and it's fans need to see it as a rival to Mls and not a minor league. This is like the 1960s when you had 2 rival pro football leagues the NFL and the AFL.both were very popular and the older league badly wanted to destroy the younger league.the USL needs to see it's self as the AFL a league equal to mls and attack things from this mindset .let your fans and have your tv partner call it a top league rivaling Mls.

I still wonder why the San Diego Loyal wasn’t the team for MLS since they had been trying to make the bid and had the fanbase to go with it. Or why didn’t they merge with the ownership group for San Diego FC

MLS is just about tapped out for expansion. I really don't think MLS would be interested in putting a team in Indianapolis, because there are still bigger markets than Indy that don't have teams yet. Plus, you pretty much have to have NFL level $$$ to be able to afford MLS.

I support Hartford (USL), but they are not nearly as good as the Revolution, which is at the bottom of MLS. The big money is in MLS. Go back and read what happened to the National Basketball League when the Basketball Association of America (now NBA) was formed. Big money won out, and it was not because of better quality.
