Indiana Jones And The Infernal Machine - Nintendo 64 Review - HD

Ойындар

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is a multi-platform action-adventure video game by LucasArts released in 1999. The first 3D installment in the series, its gameplay focuses on solving puzzles, fighting enemies, and completing various platforming sections. The story is set in 1947, nine years after the events of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and puts the eponymous protagonist, the adventurer Indiana Jones, against the Soviet Union. In a race for a mythological Babylonian power source, he joins forces with the Central Intelligence Agency and collects four pieces of the Infernal Machine, an ancient device that allegedly opens a portal to another dimension.

    WrecklessEating No this game is god awful - if you get stung by a snake at anytime - you have to reset the game as you will always be poisoned to death even after checkpoints - its crap graphics and worse controls.

    +seetube5 Don't listen to this guy, sounds like he watched James Rolfe and Mike Matei play it... those two are idiots. Yes if bitten by a snake you will die of poison... unless you use antivenom, which is plentiful and cheap. Those two idiots just didn't even think to look for an inventory. The graphics are also among the best on the console, and I think the controls on the PC version are ok, not great but still fine. Since the N64 controls are improved over that, I'm sure they are fine too.

    shivore To be honest - yes i did watch James and Mike - but to be fair the game would be worse now, then when it came out. But i feel James and mike recent play-through would be a true experience to today gamers.

    +seetube5 I had the PC version of the game and it was good. I can't speak for the N64 version, but the graphics were reasonable for the late 90's. The controls were a bit stiff, and jumping across platforms had to be pixel perfect (which was frustrating) but the exploration and puzzle solving was rewarding. There was a good range of environments to explore (some of them were huge with networks of caves and passages to navigate through) and it was fun overall. Just because James and Mike said it was shit, doesn't mean that it is.

    I got this game when I purchased my N64 in 2008 (Long story short, I wanted a N64 when I was a kid while the system was still current but I didn't get one. I wanted one for years and I took matters into my own hands later on) and I think that this and Battle for Naboo are the best looking N64 titles that I've seen. Julian Eggebrecht of Factor 5 in a recent interview stated that this was the craziest thing that the company has worked on (which is saying A LOT); cramming a game that took up 2 CDs into a single cartridge while also trying to improve it.

    Hi. I think the official reason why Tomb Raider never appeared on the N64 (according to N64 magazine) was because Sony signed a deal with Eidos to make Tomb Raider a Playstation exclusive (excluding PC of course) which applied from Tomb Raider 2 onwards. Tomb Raider 64 had been in development but was scrapped when Sony and Eidos agreed a deal. I can't remember which issue of N64 it was but if I find a link I will post it here. EDIT: This was taken from wiki and had a link to an article but the link seems to be non-existent. "In September 1997, Sony Computer Entertainment America signed a deal with Eidos to make console releases for the Tomb Raider franchise exclusive to the PlayStation, preventing the Sega Saturn or the Nintendo 64 from having any Tomb Raider game released for it until 2000, a deal that would prove very beneficial to Sony both in terms of revenue dollars and also in further cementing the PlayStation's growing reputation as the go-to system for must-have exclusive titles."

  • @ClownNaround

    @ClownNaround

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@PikaLink91 that's because they go into games how they would as if you were JUST playing the game. They go into it blind, no knowledge of controls to give a more accurate review in the eyes of someone who was at a friend's house to play a game. You can tell in most videos they both don't have any idea what to do. They do more of "at first glance/first impression" reviews rather than actual reviews because they aren't doing reviews. They're playing games. On mondays. Hence the name. Other wise it'd be called James and Mike's review mondays.

  • @PikaLink91

    @PikaLink91

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@ClownNaround Still, there's a difference between this, and actually trying. Sure you won't master the controls at your first go, but what you do first in any game is figuring out the controls, so that you know what you have to work with. Otherwise it would be like a carpenter only unpacking his toolbox when he has arrived at work, where he hasn't checked or gotten familiar with his tools beforehand. Without practice, he thus say his tools suck for the job, even though it is really him who should have come prepared. Also, it is just the their attitude. I can be bad at a game, but that don't mean I immediately label it as bad. I suck at many games that I don't call bad.

    I played through this game last year, found all the secrets and secret levels and it was pretty good. Some complaints I have are that some of the levels are REALLY long with no save points, so it was a pain to start them over again. There were times when I stayed up too late because I refused to have to restart the level over from the beginning, but questioned my sanity as the level went on and on. Also, occasionally the game crashed on me and I had to reset my N64, so that was very annoying. it definitely had some bugs. Pretty good adventure game overall, I'd give it a 7/10.

    Great review, Glenn. I've been hoping you'd do a review on this game for some time. I had no idea that it was never released officially in the UK. I actually got my copy though Blockbuster video. I remember waiting anxiously for it yo be released and then being utterly confused over the fact that it would not get a standard wide release. It's kind of amazing since the game truly is a hidden treasure for the N64 and still holds up fairly well even today. I discovered your channel while rediscovering my own N64 memories. I still have my original console and game library from my teenage years and decided to dust it off and play these great old titles. The N64 was my very first console I ever owned and purchased with my first job at a Sam Goody record store. Indiana Jones has been a life long love of mine and the Infernal Machine has always been one of my favorite titles. It is incredibly challenging to say the least and to this day I am still stuck fighting against Marduk in the atherium level. Still, quite glad you reviewed this gem. Keep up the great work! -OAD

    Excellent video! Excellent review! I’m so happy to see that this game has a following in this day and age. Back in 1999 I thought I was the only one who actually liked this game. All my friends were busy playing goldeneye and I was playing this game and the legend of Zelda. Originally, I played this game by renting it at Blockbuster. Years later, ( in 2005 I believe) I picked up this game used for the N64 on eBay for a really low price. I’m really glad I did. Even though my Nintendo 64 is in storage, I just recently bought this game on Steam and plan to play it again soon! I never actually beat this game before, so I’m going to have to try it out now. First, I love all your N64 reviews! Thanks for the care and attention to this console. Second, I didn't have this game as a kid but picked it up about a year ago at a local retro store. I haven't completed it because the only time music played during the game was an Indy riff as I used my whip to swing across a ledge. Any suggestions on why I have no other music? That would make this game even better! Thanks again

    I remember ordering this from lucasarts website and checking the website daily for more info. I had never played the Zelda or Lara croft games so it was a whole new type of game for me. I might just have to go dig out the N64 and Fire this one up. I love how factor5 always put at least one secret unlock able mission at the end of a game. They also did this with the Rogue Squadron games. They took such pride in their work and created amazing games capes. I miss them more than old rare. Thanks for the vid.

    In short, This game is amazing. I remember playing this on PC with my cousin and being disappointed that the N64 version was never released here. Factor 5 apparently had some amazing custom microcode to make the game run so smoothly in high-res mode. On top of that, the lighting, animations and facial models are some of the best on the system. Best of all, Now I can play the PAL version on an Everdrive! It's been a long while since I've been this excited about any N64 game.

    The PC version of this was the first video game I ever played. I played using a wingman extreme joystick, which made the controls a lot better than trying to play with the keyboard. I also love the graphics on the PC version, I guess just because that's what I grew up with. A few years ago for my birthday my brother got me the n64 version, and i love it, just not as much as PC. My biggest complaint is you need the memory expansion to play the mine cart level, which was my favorite on PC. I didn't have the memory expansion the first time playing on n64, so I picked one up specifically for it.

    It blew my mind when I heard there was an Indiana Jones N64 Game. Unfortunately, being in Australia, we never got a PAL release, so I wasn't even aware of it. I've tried multiple times to get an emulator working of it in Project 64, but it just always crashed. However, I did manage to score a rip of it for PC, which ran quite smoothly. And I have very fond memories of playing it in my more teenage years. I am heart broken I will probably never get to experience it on Nintendo 64.

    So, I just found out today that this game was so incredibly rare...but, I managed to play a copy around 2002 or 2003 because a friend of mine had bought it from a Blockbuster that was going out of business. It was hard for my 10 year old brain to figure out, even with cheats, but it was definitely a fun and rewarding experience. For sure will be getting it on Steam.

    11:29 Jar jar binks 12 o'clock! I never noticed that Easter egg until now. My brother and I first bought this game on the PC. Unfortunately, we didn't realize our graphics card was out of date and we could not afford a new card so... Thankfully the game was ported to the N64 so I only had to wait one year to play it. It came out right when my school went on Christmas break so I was glued to my TV for hours! Even though the controls were frustrating at times, I still loved this game and played it a bunch as a child. I'm sure it has aged poorly, but for it's time It was a great game! It's definitely the best Indiana Jones story dealing with Soviets and Aliens........

    Sucks this isn't on GoG yet. The old CD-ROM version will work on 64 bit Windows 10, but does require some mild fiddling to make it run correctly. I dunno why this isn't on there yet but Rogue Squadron is, I believe they use the same engine and many people are asking them to put this one up for sale.

    It was a very good game on PC back than. Holds up very well the direct competition with "Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation". I remember my dad both them both. Each takes me around moth to finished. Almost every level in "Infernal Machine" presented the new location in variant countries. So many secrets and challenging jumping puzzles. Shooting mechanic wasn't so great on keyboard though. But nether is in "The Last Revelation". It's a shame that N64 port was delayed so much and Dreamcast port has never been in plans.
